Wonderful stay and amazing staff!
Our stay at this hotel left only warm and positive impressions. Yes, the hotel is not new, but this is absolutely compensated by the outstanding attitude towards guests — with care, attention, and a genuine desire to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
A very special thank you goes to manager Paulo — a person who is truly in the right place. Paulo was always available, helped with every question, explained everything in detail, gave great advice, and made us feel calm, confident, and well taken care of. He is incredibly pleasant, professional, and easy to communicate with — exactly the kind of person who makes a holiday truly memorable.
The entire hotel staff deserves huge praise — everyone is doing an amazing job, always smiling, helpful, and truly trying their best. The atmosphere is friendly, warm, and welcoming.
The food deserves a special mention — absolutely fantastic! A huge variety of dishes for every taste, always fresh, delicious, and different every day. There are many restaurants, so you can enjoy different cuisines throughout your stay.
Thank you to the whole team and especially to Paulo for the care, attention, and excellent organization of our stay. We would be happy to return again and highly recommend this Hotel!🏨
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, and the food was great in all the ones we tried during our stay. The beach is ideal for snorkeling lovers, with a beautiful reef just a few steps from the shore, and there are also several pool areas to enjoy.
Our room was spacious, clean, and had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and garden area. The staff throughout the resort were very friendly and helpful.
A special mention to Paulo from Guest Relations — he was incredibly welcoming and provided exceptional hospitality from the moment we arrived, making our check-in experience smooth and memorable.
I would definitely love to come back here for a longer stay!
Negatives:
* patio furniture on hotel room balconies needs fixing, and a new paint job
* the way mosaic tiles in the pools are repaired is so shoddily with glue all over I had to take a photo of it
* the food selection can get boring after several days
* drinks are served in small glasses (2dl) that having a two pints of beer means flagging down the waiter 5 times... it helps to tip them at the start
Positives:
* the corals and the marine life at the beach is simply amazing - I have never seen such a variety of fish of magnificent colors so easily available, in shallow water close to the coast
* the service at the restaurants and bars is good overall (I did not require room maintenance so I can't speak to that). The staff are generally quite busy and work hard, but have a friendly attitude. While I did tip most times, I didn't feel pressured into it when I did not.
* The food is decent. While most of the food at the restaurant is the same every day, they try to add variety by changing the main dish at dinner every day (e.g. Tuesdays are Mexican food days, Wednesdays are Italian, etc.). You can also add variety by trying a-la cart restaurants (most are included in the price but need a reservation, and drinks are charged extra), or the burger bar for lunch.
It took me a couple of days to figure out what items cost extra, and what is included (e.g. a beer at the bar at the reception costs 5 euros and comes in a bottle, but elsewhere it is free - except for a la carte restaurants). This can be confusing or irritating, but is not uncommon at all-inclusive resorts.
We visited friends at Hilton Plaza resort which is much more expensive than Makadi Palace (both are 5-star, but that doesn't mean much) so I had a chance to compare the two properties. While the Hilton is very modern and well maintained - a 5-star by European standards - I found Makadi Plaza more genuine and better for relaxation. Even my friends staying at the Hilton said they wish they stayed with us at the Makadi - and the price difference was not a consideration. The main advantage of Hilton is that they served beer in proper size glasses so you can actually enjoy it, the food bar had a wider variety of dishes but quality wise I did not find it very different.
The property management are very serious about security, they don't let uber drivers inside the gate so you need to walk a couple hundred meters to the main gate if you want to take uber, it may be inconvenient but I found it reassuring.
Ok, we thought at least we will enjoy our time at the pool/beach. Forget it! You will be extremely lucky if you will get a sunbed, because they were all occupied since 6am, and the “helpfull” answer of the staff was “wake up earlier”. If you maybe won the lotto and got one sunbed, then at that moment there were every minute some of those who were selling some “high class” services and anoyed you the whole day, even if you said to everyone you didn’t want their offer and if you would want to get it, you will come to them.
But if you in any case like all above mentioned, go there, if not, STAY AWAY!
If you fly with ETI travel we advise to make the "island tour" with 2 snorkeling spots (is included the visit to Giftun Island, you have not to miss it!).
