Porto Greco Village Beach Hotel

We arrived at around 10pm and given a sandwich each by a welcoming receptionist as we missed dinner. Arriving to the room was disappointing to say the least. Room looked absolutely nothing like the pictures advertised there isn't even any pictures of the room we got displayed on the website. Bathroom is incredibly tiny and you can only fit in when the door is shut (obviously not a fault of the hotel but be aware that toilet paper cannot be flushed) Tiny cheap shower, shower curtain would stick to you as its so small and shower head flimsy Cleaning service was good, cleaners came every day apart from Sundays and did great job which was positive. Loud music blasting from the Scorpio bar at night can be heard depending on where you're situated (we were on the ground floor) Beds were hard with no proper duvet only a literal thin bed sheet. 7 pools but 5/7 very tiny almost the size of a bath and get very warm and dirty towards late afternoon so unpleasant to swim in. Other 2 pools are bigger but one of them filthy as its situated on the part of the hotel where all the partying young people stay so cigarette buds and empty plastic cups all over the floor and loud music Other big pool was great but sun loungers surrounding the pool always taken unless you wake up at 7am to claim one. Drinks made at the bar are overly sweet and bad quality spirits. Horrible beaches nearby, all packed with sun loungers you had to pay for and so many people you can hardly move. Food in the Buffet was okay some days, not so nice other days. However, staff were all very nice which is a positive. Overall, our experience was okay but I wouldn't come back or recommend this place to anyone.

Few issues with our first room but thankfully got relocated after night 2. Ground floor room wasn't as nice as pictured online, first thing we saw was a dead cockroach on the floor and a window with no curtain so anyone walking past on the road could see in. Music from King Scorpion was loud until after 1am. Staff were very lovely and helpful but weren't able to move us any earlier. We ended up borrowing an extra sheet to cover the window. Second room was much better, although the lock wasn't very secure. Remember to pack bite cream and bug spray as I ended up with over 30 bites after two nights. I thankfully didn't get bitten quite as much once we moved rooms. Location was good with nice walks along the coast including to the touristy areas. Far away enough for it to be a bit quieter but close enough if you're interested in all of the touristy bits. Plenty of local shops and souvenir shops nearby and options for more bars nearby. Food at the main resturant got a bit samey but decent selection, not many options for vegetarians though. The A la Carte at Black Pepper was a nice touch and a lovely evening dining with a sea view. The night we went they even had some dancers come to perform which was great. Pools were alright but not too many sunbeds. As we went slighy off peak we could normally get sunbeds if we timed it right after lunch but it would likely be tougher during peak summer. Beaches nearby were nice but cost money to hire sunbeds. There was space to sit on the beach just around the corner where you didn't need to pay so we opted for that. Easy to get into Heraklion via bus stop just up the road. Takes about 30mins and plenty to do in the city. Overall a decent trip after we moved rooms but a few issues. You get what you pay for.

We arrived at the hotel around 4 AM, completely exhausted. The room we were given was old, located on the ground floor, and nothing like the photos advertised. We had paid for a deluxe room with a sea view, so this was a big disappointment. We asked to change rooms but were told we had to wait until the manager arrived at 11 AM. With no other option and in need of rest, we booked another hotel for the night, even though we lost a paid night. When we returned, we were given a better room, but the experience was stressful and frustrating. The food was okay, but we missed more vegetarian options and fresh fruit. The salads and drinks were good. We skipped several meals and chose to eat out instead. In the end, we left one day early, even though we had paid for a full week.
