Colonna Palace in Rome

Due to jet lag, I woke up at 2 AM on the first night and couldn't fall back asleep. It was probably breakfast and coffee time back home... but it was the middle of the night in Rome, and the hotel breakfast started at 7:30 AM.

I was on my phone in bed until 4 AM. Feeling restless, I called the front desk to see if there was any way to get a cup of coffee. I wasn't very hopeful, but the person on the other end said they could specially make one for me, which I was so grateful for 🥹. All the hotel staff were very friendly.

The hotel's location is excellent. The farthest I walked was to the Vatican, and it took me a leisurely 45 minutes. If you walk fast, it would definitely be under 30 minutes. Other attractions are even closer. There are restaurants all around, offering every kind of food imaginable, and for shopping, it's just a two-minute walk to the shopping streets leading to the Spanish Steps.

One of the reasons I considered this hotel initially was safety. It seems there's a council building opposite, with numerous police officers around all day. As long as you don't stay out too late, there's not much to worry about. Also, personally, I think the safety concerns about Rome are a bit exaggerated on Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform). Just be mindful of your belongings and don't flaunt your wealth, and you'll generally be fine.

The hotel breakfast didn't have many options, but the bread was delicious. Being on the top floor, the view was beautiful and very pleasant.

Now for the cons, which I personally found tolerable:
1. It's relatively old, but it's clean, which is a big plus.
2. The elevator is small and a bit slow to respond, but it closes within three to five seconds once you're inside. On my first day, after checking in, I was going up to my room. Three people went in before me, and I couldn't fit with my large suitcase. The elevator door finally closed, but then inexplicably opened again. A woman inside angrily told me, "Stop pressing it!!!" I was bewildered and retorted just as angrily, "I didn't even touch it!!" The woman fell silent, and I waited for the other elevator to arrive and left first.
3. Soundproofing is average, so light sleepers should take note.
4. No free drinking water. The mini-bar items are chargeable. So, you can buy water at a nearby supermarket. 1.5 liters costs 0.88 Euros.

In summary, I would choose to stay here again next time.

Fantastic hotel. Amazing location to walk everywhere. Beautiful rooms and lovely terrace for breakfast. Good continental breakfast with a great view. Friendly staff serving coffee and machines also available. Felt very safe with police outside.

This place good location to visit Trevi fountain an Pantheon but a bit difficult for a car parking near hotel

Very safe location as it was opposite the parliament house where the police would patrol. Location was also very convenient and near to many tourist sites. However, as aircon would automatically turn off once temperature is reached, we would need to open the window for ventilation. Temperature was fine given that it was during the colder season but it was very noisy outside and mosquitoes also flew in. Overall, would rate this a 3.5/5 stay.

The location in central Rome is outstanding. A pleasant walk to all the sites. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The downsides were the age of the rooms, with only one plug that had a standard European connection, all the others were the older type - we didn’t have an adaptor for them, but didn’t need one anywhere else. The other aspect was the slowest and most unstable WiFi we experienced in the 5 week trip - not good enough in today’s world. Would probably come back given the location.

I got to the hotel really early, and to my surprise the room was already ready, so I could check in right away. Since I had to leave before breakfast, they even gave me a packed meal to take with me. I was so happy with the service — I’ll definitely be back!
