Where to stay in Zermatt

For all of you who have criticised this hotel, I need to put the record straight. I stayed for 7 nights over Christmas. This hotel has a fantastic location across the road from the main station and right beside the Gornergrat railway and buses. It is an ancient Swiss Chalet Hotel with the characteristics of said era. The hotel is clean and tidy, the restaurant is rustic and cosy and the rooms warm...

I knew about people saying to the hotel, but in the other side the hotel located in front the main station and supermarket just beside the corner. What can i complain to this? It's zermatt, don't expect you can get a cheap and private room on this price. The price i got only 15USD compared to the hostel😂 By the way the balcony looks old... but is facing the matterhorn!! I really love it.

Location is very good, just across from the station. The room was clean with modern decor and (basic) furnishings. Nice to have a balcony. The staff are mostly friendly. The breakfast is pretty basic - cereals (no proper museli or granola), bread rolls, a few sliced cold meats, yogurt, and a bowl of fruit cocktail. I stayed there about a year ago during the 2020 summer. I loved the hotel. I spent 4 nights there as a solo hiker during the Ultraks. Run down hotel... staff was friendly but the room smelled like old carpet and looked like 1960. I’d only recommend if you cannot find other accommodation

This is THE place if you're in Zermatt! Ask for Room 4, which has a large balcony looking right out on the river and the Matterhorn. Very walkable location. Breakfast was lovely and the staff are great. The restaurant downstairs is wonderful!

As it was not so expensive as other Hotels in Zermatt, I expected to rooms to be smaller and more basic. But it was nice decorated. Hotel has no Reception, this is in the restaurant. Food is also good

The drinks are reasonably priced and the food a little high- but all of Switzerland is high on food- So we drank more and ate less..lol

We stayed overnight at Zermatt at this place. Our rooms was warm and cosy as the temperature outside was -10°C. The room offered great views of Matterhorn peak and the valley. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast options were limited but sufficient. Considering the Zermatt valley is usually cold, it would be good provide a kettle and a couple of cups to enjoy a hot cuppa in the room

Bit of a hike from train station. Took a while to figure out city bus pattern. Zermatt is car free but they have many small vans running around town - pedestrians beware. Liked room very much and when construction next door finished view will be improved. Breakfast was excellent as was house staff.

When we arrived, Diana quickly guided us to the lower floor for the lift as we have heavy luggages. Diana and her teammates always make us feel very welcoming to the hotel and to breakfast. Love this hotel! Staff is delightful and so helpful in every way. Breakfast is hearty. Rooms are comfy and showers are easy to figure out. Central to town and lifts. We did not have a view of the mountain but the clouds were out anyway. Did have a nice small deck with views of flowers . We would stay here again. The staff was a real bonus !!

Really a nice place to stay in Zermatt. Free local electric bus and a five minute walk after that will get you to the hotel. Rooms are nice. Staff is respectful and breakfast is good. It is a good place to stay and see the sites in Zermatt.

This is a great hotel. We stayed here for two nights (Fri & Sat). It's approximately 10-15 minutes walk from the train station and a nice short walk into the main street for food, drinks, shopping, etc. The staff were very polite & helpful, our room fob was waiting for us upon arrival. Stairs were awful . No front desk service at all. Took a long time to find a paper on the glass door which was cramped with other information. The paper listed in rather small fonts the room numbers assigned to different guests. The keys were hanging by the sidewall. Not enough power outlets. Loud songs with heavy drum beats were heard from outside at 11 pm even on a Monday night. Can’t imagine what...

It's a small room, but cozy for a solo traveler on a budget trip like me. It's near the Matterhorn Museum. They provide a nice breakfast. I like their cheese. The downsides are there aren't enough plugs and there's no elevator. You'll need to carry your own luggage up to your room. They let me check in early around 12pm when I arrived, which I really appreciated.

The room was small, but the location was great. I booked two rooms, and only one had a balcony, which was very comfortable. I could watch the people going by on the street, or look out at the clock tower and listen to the chimes, which was very romantic. The other room was just average. The breakfast was very good, and I loved the bread; it was delicious.

Considering the price ... You'll get what you paid for.just a place to spend the night and take a shower. Very outdated place, you can smell it when you enter the building. No elevator. Toilet shared, but shower inside the small room. Paid for 2 adult and a child not toddler but only get a twin bed. Place close to station but zermatt is not a big village either.

Absolutely the best place in Zermatt. Just a couple of mins walk away from the Train station and bus stop. Cosy and comfy rooms, quiet and spacious and a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. Only downsides were there is no elevator and they don't accept credit cards, but absolutely worth the stay. The hostess was very warm and welcoming. I would stay again for sure.

Value for money is what you are looking for here. The hotel is clean, has everything you need and is nearer to the station than any other hotel in this town. Unless your budget is 3 times larger, I would say this property is easy to recommend at this price point.

Only reason why I'm not giving it another star is because of the shared bathroom situation. But happy to at least have a shower in our room. Great location, charming room with balcony and sliding doors. Walking distance to the train station and everything. When you come in, there's a note with your name and room key. It's nice after long travels to just get your key and go to your room.

One of the best places in Zermatt. The Matterhorn can be seen directly from the rooms. The station is simply 5 minutes away. So it is very convenient. The only con is there is no one in the reception. So getting to the room at odd hours can be challenging.

Great location, only 4 mins away from the main Zermatt station. Room was basic just like all the others as this used to be a village but the view from the room was mind blowing, they even had a playing area behind the hotel (common for a few closeby hotels) which was nice to have with kids.

We had two rooms here (one with private bathroom, one with shared bathroom). Breakfast was good, reception nice. Free instand coffee next to reception. A fantastic little hotel with that warm feeling. A nice atmosphere with fantastic and helpfull personnel. Perfectly located between the city center and the gondola to the Zermatt wiev point. We had a nice simple room with everything we needed. The resturant in the bottom floor served wery nice both food and drinks. I will definatly come back.👌

Wonderful budget hotel in a great location. The hotel is small, cozy and offers great value for money. The staff is also unbeatable and very accommodating. The breakfast buffet also left nothing to be desired. Highly recommended, we would be happy to come back.

Very good stay in the heart of small town.... its on the other end of the railway station with less luggage or a single 23kg luggage, I was able to drag it to the hotel with no trouble. A perfect and economical place to stay the night in Zermatt. Very good location. Neat room. The washroom is clean even though it is shared. And most importantly, a perfect breakfast. Everything is just amazing.

Hotel Matthiol was our favorite stay in Switzerland! The hotel is tucked just outside the main part of Zermatt, which made it feel peaceful and private, but it was still an easy walk into town, and the complimentary shuttle was a nice bonus. The location is excellent, very close to the station, practically in the center of town. The staff were very attentive, and you could feel everyone striving to make guests as satisfied as possible. The room space is very large, the overall decor facilities and other 10 points good, the TV can also connect to Netflix. The breakfast was good and the hotel had other facilities although not enjoyed, but 10 points good. There is only one problem, the unavoidable flow of water out of the bathroom after the shower.

This hotel is relatively cost-effective in Zermatt. The room is relatively small, but very design-conscious, and you can see the Matterhorn from the balcony. The breakfast is very good and freshly made. The hotel's spa is very unique and worth a try.

Check in at the 22 Summits Hotel and they whisk you into the "James Bond" Underground tunnel to access the elevator to the apartments. Very cool. We booked Apartment 10. Amazing stay - 5 stars! Had an amazing stay here. Appt was generously sized and had everything you needed. Matterhorn view from the living room and bedroom too was amazing. Staff really friendly and helpful and a great selection at breakfast too. Really cosy rooms and has a real boutique feel to it. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would definitely stay here again if going back to Zermatt

We had a wonderful stay at the Mont Rosa Hotel in Zermatt. The staff were exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. The hotel itself is charming and beautifully appointed, with so much character and history. It has that perfect blend of old-world elegance and modern comfort.

Staff very courteous and breakfast was quite good. Amenities (bathroom): should be refilled when empty or nearly empty (hand soap, vanity fair, tissues). Main comment would be on the smell of food in the hotel, especially during breakfast time. Our room was on the 4th floor and the smell was arriving until our room, in the elevator.. and we ended up with clothes smelling food very strongly.

Stayed at Hotel Albana Real with a group. We all enjoyed the hotel. Rooms were large and quiet. Spa was enjoyed by all. Restaurant did a good job with breakfast and catered to our preferences.

First stay in this hotel, good location with a short walk to the town and to the lifts. It has many facilities on site, boot / ski room, gym and pool. Rooms are a good size and more traditional alps style. Breakfast is good but would prefer it to start at 7am to be able to be prompt to get first lift!

The BREAKFAST was so soo good !!!!! The room was big and comfy, everything was super clean. They also had like a sofa bed which worked great for us. Steps away from the train station with incredible spa and amenities. The breakfast and tea time with desserts daily was a cherry on top. Room service comes from a cute Italian place down the way and is great. Staff was very kind and accommodating!

Surprised this does not have 5 stars already. Location is central from all attractions and nice views, easy access from Lucerne via the train station. I enjoyed the various amenities all in great luxury, pool had a heater control for bubbles and sauna style while being spacious. Just had an amazing amazing stay at Schloss Zermatt! The hotel staff WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND to provide us top-notch services! We were able to celebrate my friend’s birthday with surprises prepared by the staff which included flowers, chocolates, and cake! Excellent location that was close to the train station and convenient to town. The room was nice with a view of the Matterhorn and spacious bathroom. The balcony was nice (even if it was right across from the Gornergrat station). Having a drink at night in the lobby by the fireplace was nice. The afternoon tea was excellent as was the breakfast. My wife thought the spa experience was wonderful

great location, 50m from station and the shuttle bus was very helpful with a v pleasant breakfast too. great shower though bedroom area was quite small, balcony was nice but too cold to use on the day.

We stayed here on our trip to Zermatt. Richard, the owner is amazing, he is so approachable and helpful. He picked us up and sent us to the train station on our way back. The room and the facilities were great too. It was nice that we could cook ourselves a meal. The view of the Matterhorn from the balcony was a nice surprise. Would definitely recommend this place.

Very good view right in the hostel room. I like that it's not bunker bed, there's also a small and short partition between beds which is good. Breakfast is yummy, kitchen staff asked for feedback, shows that they care. Friendly and helpful front desk staff. The views are stunning, with a direct window view of the Matterhorn, but the climb up was exhausting. Overall, the facilities and privacy were just average, and breakfast was quite unappetizing. You really have to weigh the pros and cons if you plan to stay here.

A typical small European hostel, but for Switzerland, this price is fair. The breakfast is quite generous. However, it's pretty far from the train station, which is really inconvenient if you have luggage, unless you're willing to shell out for a taxi within the town. But then again, if I'm staying in a hostel, why would I want to spend extra money on a taxi? Zermatt truly is incredibly beautiful though...

I could see a small view of the Matterhorn from my room. It's a walk from the station, but definitely manageable. It was a clean and pleasant stay.

The room was clean, just as shown in the photos. I could see the Matterhorn from the window, which was perfect. Just keep in mind that you need to climb quite a lot of stairs to reach the hostel. There is no elevator, and since I stayed on the highest floor, it was a bit exhausting. Apart from the stairs, everything was perfect.
