Reviews
Walking distance to several bars and restaurants.
Location: Absolutely Strategic
Let’s start with the great news: this place is smack in the heart of downtown DC. You’re walking distance from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the Smithsonian museums, and a ton of metro lines. If you’re in town for meetings, an award conference, or just trying to get all the monuments in without Uber’ing to death, this is prime real estate.
Lobby & Vibe: Big, Bold, and Buzzing
Walk in and you feel the scale. Tall ceilings, that signature Marriott energy, and all the human activity you’d expect from a major business hotel. It’s busy, purposeful, and feels like a place that gets things done. If you like quieter boutique vibes, this might feel a bit corporate—but honestly, that’s part of the charm if you’re here for work or an event.
Rooms: Comfortable With a Dash of Practical
The guest rooms are spacious by city-hotel standards, clean, and modern. Beds are comfy, bathrooms are functional, and the views—depending on your room—can be killer. Minimal jazz, maximal comfort. If you’re the type who judges a hotel on how well you sleep after a long day of sessions or meetings, this is solid territory.
Food & Drink: Convenient and Quality
There’s a decent grab-and-go coffee situation in the morning and a few sit-down options if you want a meal without leaving the building. Food is what you’d expect from an upper-upscale business hotel—nothing that will redefine your palate, but reliable, serviceable, and good when you’re short on time between appointments.
Service: Pro Level
Staff generally knows what they’re doing. Check-in feels efficient even when the lobby’s packed. Housekeeping is timely. Concierge is helpful. It may not be a small inn where everyone remembers your name, but it’s a machine that runs well.
Pools, Fitness, Extras
There’s a gym that’s roomy enough to actually get your sweat on. I won’t do a victory lap about the pool because it’s not a spa destination, but the fitness space gets the job done if squeezing in a workout is your thing.
The Bottom Line
If you want location, functionality, and a polished business hotel that won’t throw surprises your way, the Marriott Marquis in DC delivers. It’s got the energy of a major city hub, the reliability Marriott is known for, and that comfy bed waiting after a long day.
Room for improvement? Maybe a little more character or local flair. But if you’re here to work, explore, and crash with zero fuss, this place checks every box.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
Solid choice. Strategic location. Reliable comfort. Great for conferences and meetings.
Service: I requested a blanket and a kettle, and while the items were eventually delivered, it took nearly an hour, which felt a bit slow for a hotel of this caliber.
Breakfast: One of the highlights of my stay. The breakfast was varied and flavorful, with plenty of choices to satisfy different tastes. Definitely worth trying if you enjoy a hearty start to your day.
Value: The hotel leans on the pricier side, especially when factoring in the additional costs for services. The service was decent, but it didn’t quite match the premium pricing.
Overall, the Marriott Marquis delivers a solid, if conventional, stay. It’s ideal for travelers who value a central location and a broad range of breakfast options, but may not impress those expecting standout service.

The staff was very careless and absent. The manager was rude and condescending (telling us that our complaining style was wrong -- we tired to be as polite as possible). And the food quality was completely was lackluster as well.
Never again will I go back to Ping Pong.
Clearly they were understaffed the night I was here and it showed in the slow and error-prone service. The few staff on duty spent most of the night running around like headless chickens, they tried their best but really the blame must lie with management in under-staffing the joint.
In my case, the main problem was around a side of sticky white rice I had originally ordered to come with my first course of dim sum. It actually showed up at about 10 minutes after I had finished the dim sum. I was intending to order more dim sum so I asked the waiter if he could take it back and just keep it warm until my next course came, he actually offered to just give me a fresh one during the next course which was appreciated. Unfortunately the rice never came back, I got the rest of my 2nd course as ordered but the rice never materialized. In the end, I didn't even have to tell the waiter to take it off the bill, he did it virtually automatically so again I do not blame him for the overall bad service, he was clearly under a lot of pressure.
Also I heard the table next to me which was a large group of girls complaining as well so clearly I was not the only one having issues that night.
This place really needs to get their act together. Ping Pong is a widely recognized chain now and is considered fairly upscale so the service needs to match the amazing food (and cocktails!) on offer here.
