Description

Nordurey Guesthouse in Reykjavik offers budget-conscious travelers a 3-star stay with simple accommodations and shared facilities. The guesthouse provides Superior Double rooms, Classic Double rooms, and Classic Double rooms with balconies, all with heating and access to WiFi. While rooms are clean and heated, many guests note the limited space and shared bathrooms, which can lead to waits during busy times. The property has a shared kitchen, laundry services, and a restaurant on-site. Express check-in and check-out services are available, although check-in is self-service with instructions provided upon arrival. The building has a lift and a garden, making it accessible and offering some outdoor space. Parking is available but can be challenging. The guesthouse’s overall rating is 7.7/10, reflecting its affordable price and central location, despite some complaints about noise insulation and mold in certain rooms.

Location

Nordurey Guesthouse is located on Snorrabraut 71 in the Hlidar neighborhood of Reykjavik, approximately 1 km from Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV). The guesthouse lies about 1.9 km from Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach, offering a natural swimming experience. It is close to the city center and near landmarks such as the local church and the Flybus station, about a 10-minute walk away. Within 254 meters, you’ll find the American-style restaurant 'Kraypatna Kushta,' rated 8/10, known for its casual bar food including gourmet mac & cheese and pulled pork burgers. This location makes it convenient for exploring Reykjavik’s central attractions on foot.

Pros: great location, nice rooms, affordable price
Cons: paper thin walls - I got awaken 2 times due to the noise from a shower that was next to our room. In addition, kitchen is too small compared to the overall amount of guests this site is hosting

Perfect place to spend a night or two as good location and comes with kitchen and laundry facilities. However check in can be a nightmare if your booking platform does not update you with check in instructions

Booked through Expedia, seemed like a complete guesthouse, but deceptive photos. Shared bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. Extremely small room, just about enough for family of 4, hardly any space for luggage. Parking difficult. No elevators.

The location was fantastic. Check in was easy. Staff seemed to come in regularly and take out the trash and tiddy up the bathrooms. The couch for the third person to sleep on was awful. There was a lot of mold in the shower and the drain didn’t work well. You had to continually shut the water off during your shower so it didn’t flood the bathroom. Staff was notified and they were able to have maintenance clean the drain the following day. Customer service was good. Overall, the location was worth the stay.

The room trash was not emptied and there was no indication where you could take it yourself. The humidity was quite high. The traffic noise was reasonably loud.

Great central location and value. You will share a bathroom so make sure you are ok with that. Having a kitchen available was great. Staff was helpful when I needed to speak to them.

Pictures and description of property gave the impression that kitchen and bathroom facilities were part of the room. However they were shared and the room was so small, it had space for just about people to enter in and out. No space for luggage, very difficult and we were ,4 of us

Bathroom/Toilet is not as clean as expected

The rooms are clean for a budget hotel but the walls are paper thin. I can hear everytime someone takes a poop and when he goes to the shower or uses the tap. There is only 1 bathroom at every floor with the sink, toilet and shower in the same room so it cannot be used concurrently. This means we have to wait >30mins for each person to poop, then shower etc. You can only imagine what it is like on a busy night.

I can’t believe Guide to Iceland would book someplace like this, there is no standard at all! Very disappointed

Would not recommend for staying for families. This review is based out 3
night stay in 2 rooms

Good
- room and bed was clean (mostly) and had good heating.
- bathroom and shared areas are also clean.
- location is great and walkable to bustop 11 and 9

That’s pretty much it.

Bad
- Shaded bathroom in our floor 2 had doors that are stuck and did not lock and they did not fix it when we asked.

- No Wifi. This is not going to work especially with kids
- No connection to TV. When you turn on there is no signal and it’s mostly decorative
- Place looks run down from outside.
- The water from taps smells like rotten eggs must be sulphur dioxide but it’s yucky smell not like other places I have been in Reykjavík so something is off here.
- In room 203 which we stayed for 1 night there was mold or something similar in ceiling corner we did not bother as we were staying for 1 night.( see picture)
- Room 304 where we stayed 2 night was cramped “superior” double bed with sofa. However other rooms in other floor are spacious
- We asked for 1 hour extension to checkout at noon instead of 11 am but they were not able to oblige this basic request

Note: No luggage storage option another family had to book extra night to store luggage however if you are ok lugging you luggage you can take it to BSI terminal by bus and store it for fee

The spirit of USA "bar food" cuisine is present, even if the accuracy of the combinations is a near miss. The mac & cheese was gourmet... and the burger topping. This initially seemed odd, until I considered the pulled pork topped burgers or breakfast burgers that are common specials back home. Well done guys!

Very tasty veggy burger. Greasy but amazing fries. 4 star because the restaurant randomly serves me either vegan or vegetarian burger when I order vegetarian. Both are good but one is better than the other. Recommended.

Honestly probably 1of the best burgers Ive ever had in my life

Give this place a try, you might like it. I was a little skeptical about Icelandic BBQ, but trust me, the food is pretty good. 2,395 for 1/2 rack of baby back ribs (big portion) plus well made fries and fennel cole slaw. My barometer is if it tastes good as well as if it's satisfying. This place qualifies both. Oh, I got great service at the bar.
