Though it’s a beautiful “5-star” property, the air conditioning did not work in our room - in July, in Rome. It was 25 degrees the entire time (about 80, for those Americans reading this), even at night, even though we had it set to 15 degrees for hours. It was SO stuffy and uncomfortable we could not sleep.
We had to call the front desk 3 times to see if someone would fix it, and it wasn’t until the last time (at 2:00 in the morning!) that they finally offered us a different room. Every other time they seemed disorganized and disinterested. Apparently the air conditioning in that part of the hotel “just isn’t very strong” according to someone at the front desk.
I had to go down in the lobby in my pajamas at 2am and switch to a completely different side of the hotel to get to the new room (in the “newer” part of the hotel), which was so awkward. The new room was perfectly fine - but why on earth would they put guests in a side of the hotel they know has poorly functioning air conditioning? It’s like there are two separate hotels.
The next morning they didn’t even offer to comp my breakfast (I had to ask!).
For this price and this caliber of hotel we expected so much better.
