Our stay at this luxury ryokan was simply magnificent in every aspect: the service, atmosphere, grounds, cleanliness, and the genuine care and attention to detail were all exceptional
I highly recommend booking a room with a private onsen, as the bookable private baths and the public bath don't compare to the experience of soaking in your own room
From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost reverence and attentiveness, making us feel like honored guests and part of the ryokan family
The Gora Kadan was the perfect end to our three week stay in Japan, it's the first place we'd recommend to anyone else interested in visiting Japan
An absolutely amazing experience! I've stayed in countless top-tier hotels over the years, and Gōra Kadan is, without a doubt, the best!
The service was incredibly thoughtful. They offered on-demand shuttle service to all the attractions in Gora, which was a lifesaver, especially avoiding walking in the cold winter

I have to say, Japanese gardens are incredibly small and refined; every spot is meticulously kept and elegant. My only regret was slipping on a steep slope after getting off the bus
Furthermore, some parts of the 'sidewalk' weren't properly maintained, and there were few streetlights, so I was almost hit by a car at night, which was scary
I didn't manage to use the pass for the baths over the road, but great to have that included in the price if you do have time. Some lovely gardens right opposite the hotel
A wonderful authentic Japanese experience. Great service despite us not speaking the same language (They are very adept at using Google translate)
Good Location for Hakone Open Air Museum and for being able to get on the bus back to the station early before it gets so crowded it doesn't stop for more passengers
Even though it's a public bath, it's small, cozy, and has outdoor pools. The hotel is conveniently located right by Kowakien Station and Horaiden

The Japanese breakfast is a must-try; we enjoyed it so much that we had it for four consecutive mornings! What's more, the Japanese breakfast menu changes every three days, with each day offering enticing dishes
This five-star hotel is absolutely wonderful! The hotel itself has a rich history, and there's even a museum inside that meticulously chronicles its past. The hotel garden is stunning and perfect for photos
③ Chinese-speaking service is available throughout (though the hotel primarily hosts ********* guests, with very few mainland Chinese visitors). ④ There's a 24-hour complimentary beverage and coffee bar within the hotel
As a hotel that was once a showcase for Japan's opening to the West, you can feel the high standards of design and service everywhere. Most of the guests are older, which reminds me a bit of China's Friendship Hotel
The forest-view rooms are located in the wing built in the 1960s. The decor isn't just retro; it's genuinely vintage. You can tell they used quality materials and had good taste, but it definitely feels dated
If you're not comfortable using the public bath, the hot water in the room's bathtub is actually hot spring water, so you can enjoy a private soak in your room. The hotel itself has a lot to offer

The place was spotless, the environment was beautiful, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Even though English wasn't their strong suit, they used translation apps effectively to communicate
They also patiently explained which station had luggage lockers, as we were planning to move on to a different location the next day. If we hadn't already made other plans, staying two nights would have been ideal
We also had pleasant encounters with local Japanese people in the public baths; they were very friendly. One even waited outside to recommend some ice cream to us! Overall, I had a fantastic impression of Hakone
Incredible room and incredible food, we were in Japan for 2 weeks and ate in good restaurants the entire time and both the dinner and the breakfast a Hakone Suishoen were our best meals of the trip
Most luxurious hotel I have ever experienced: luxurious Room and luxurious service, highly recommended. I heard that they will start renovating in Oct though the hotel is still in perfect shape
The dining experience felt like a hotel's set course meal. While dinner was a little slow, the overall experience was excellent, and the dining staff were all wonderful

We didn’t get to go up tot he mountain via the cable car but I understand that the access is right off of this property. We would definitely recommend this place if you need full relaxation and tranquility
Everything about the stay here was exceptional. Staff were incredibly well mannered and couldn't do enough to help us. We were able to get a pick up from Gora station to the hotel, and found it to be an easy experience.
Ryokan with a modern twist. Appreciate the convenience of an in room onsen in our suite. Have all the modern conveniences and yet have a ryokan experience. Kaiseki dinners in partitioned enclosures lent some privacy.
Rooms were as expected; clean, comfortable beddings (both mattress and futon), and the view was picturesque. Both private and public onsen was great. Not many people in the public onsen when I was there
Wonderful experience. The rooms and views are fantastic, and the staff goes above and beyond to help. Thank you!!
Public onsen has outdoor portions which was nice environment. Food was course meal for both dinner and breakfast

Staff very flexible in assisting our travel plans the next day as well. Given that it's located in the higher areas of Hakone, it does limit ability to get to the hotel unless you have a car
The service was impeccable - communication was excellent, facilities were top-notch and the care we received was nothing short of amazing
We would definitely go back again in the future! The availability of your own private onsen in the room with hot spring water was so worth it. Great selection of seasonal food during dinner and breakfast
However, there is a shuttle available to pick up guests. Only thing was that our group got a questioning look from the driver initially when we approached the shuttle saying we had a booking
Ten courses breakfast and twelve courses Kaiseki dinner in a private dining room could easily cost at least $200 USD for two people; a private dining room in Japan costs 4000 yens at some restaurants
A ryokan that even the locals enjoy! It was an amazing experience staying in Madoka no Mori - from pick up at Gora station to the check-in, we were looked after

The daily breakfast and dinners are called Kaiseki with multiple course and presented in the most beautiful ceramics and dishes. Our room hostess was so delightful and made our experience even better
Everyone at the Ryokan, from the people at the front desk to the lovely men at the doors were dedicated to making our stay better with a welcoming smile
Additionally, this Ryokan is located within a short walk to the town where many opportunities for sightseeing are possible. An impressive view of Mt Fuji was the cherry on top
Kasatsu Ryokan is located a five-minute walk from Hakone Checkpoint on the shore of Lake Ashi and a half-hour taxi ride from Odawara High Speed Rail Station. The transportation is very convenient
I cannot say enough positive things about this beautiful and relaxing ryokan. The setting is stunning and a perfect example of Japanese gardens
Soaking in the onsen baths are the best way to relax after a day of travel or sightseeing. I enjoyed the morning by soaking in the outside onsen

Both bed was sunken in. Room was clean and big definitely worth the money. However staff was unfriendly and couldn't understand English much
We can’t recommend Hotel Kagetsuen enough and would opt to stay there again on our next visit to Hakone
The private bath is really a plus! There are four and no wait line. I had used it twice during my overnight stay
The Japanese dinner is quite delicious too! The surprise was that it snowed, adding extra aesthetic touch
Very good hotel on the quiet hill with free car park. pretty close to the tourist attraction. Room size is very reasonable, dinner and breakfast is great.
Located near two bus stops, easy access to public transportation makes Hotel Kagetsuen a convenient place to stay. It seems well-managed, with amenities provided as promised, and facilities that are clean and working

There were missing instructions on how to make your futon; it would be nice to have some for foreigners staying at a ryokan for the first time. We communicated through a translator
The location isn't the most convenient; on the way back from the hotel, I spent 40 minutes trying to catch a bus, but no one stopped. Overall, I liked it; it's a good place to relax and explore Hakone
Need to walk about 6 mins from the station. Onsen is quite good, hot water, bubble tube, big outdoor tube. Food is so much delicious, a lot of plates with different dishes
A nice hotel with excellent onsen and a pleasant mountain view from the room. The men's and women's baths are switched every evening so you can try both
The girl in the dining room spoke English. The staff allowed me to leave my suitcase in the morning upon checkout and pick it up in the evening
The food is an acquired taste; I found it too pickled and not enough fish and meat. A delicious dessert was available for breakfast

First of all, I have to praise the Japanese-style detailed service. The wheels of the suitcase were cleaned and each facility and room function was introduced in detail. A total of 68,000yan for 1 hotel room and 2 meals
I didn't realize that dinner would be a kaiseki meal, including sashimi and other raw seafood, and I didn't tell the restaurant in advance that I didn't want seafood, so I was in a bit of a pickle
This is an old hotel that started in 1890. It feels like living in history. The reception staff is very warm and thoughtful. There are 6 hot springs that I really like. The dinner is also very exquisite.
Staying in the Meiyi room, you can see the gurgling spring water and green trees outside the window, which is very comfortable! The wooden Japanese-style building is exquisite and elegant, and the private bath is very classic and private
The location is in Tonosawa, at the intersection of the bridge. Although the food is not the best, the single-order drinks are not expensive. It is very artistic on rainy days
This building, built in 1890, offers a complete immersion into the country's culture and history. Excellent service, wonderful onsen, and delicious meals.

The owners gave us the warmest welcome after arriving late and after a long day of traveling. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Love the big bathtub for soaking after a long day of travel
The hosts also helped us with our luggage to our car when we check out even when we told him not to. Great experience! Highly recommended
My wife and I had a great experience here. The accommodations were very clean, modern with nice equipment, and very cozy with cute decor. The hosts were incredibly kind and accommodating
Clean, spacious, comfortable rooms. Run by a very kind couple who took excellent care of us and even offered to take our luggage to our next stay nearby.
Not far from the bus stop (we caught a bus from Tokyo to Hakone). In a nice, quiet neighborhood. Very Japanese -- a place for our shoes, they cleaned out luggage wheels in the lobby and carried our luggage up stairs
They provided valuable recommendations and were responsive to messages. The location is very charming and was our favorite in Hakone. We will stay here again in the future

For breakfast, it was a buffet and I probably enjoyed the breakfast more. The hotspring was a little old, but it was nice. I went by car, but the parking was limited, so I was happy I got there early
The bathroom taps/shower were a bit of a nightmare to get to a decent temperature and volume. The onsen was very functional and was extremely hot. Yukata provided and get to choose the size which is nice extra
The staff were so friendly and helpful and accommodating. The breakfast and dinner buffets had a nice selection of foods and the beer pouring machine was great. I was able to drive to many spots from this location
like this hotel, value for money. they have indoor and outdoor onsen. reception staff speak fluent english and very helpful to help us to make a toll free call to tokyo.
Loved the traditional Japanese design of the rooms! The best thing was the hot spring bath inside the hotel on a balcony, which is even open during the night
The hotel dinner was wonderful, there was so much food (Japanese tapas style), some of it prepared directly at the table

But the best part was when we discovered our room: traditional Japanese, beautiful architecture and design, and having a private onsen inside the room. You can also have a bath in other onsens inside the hotel
Which, logically, is not down in the valley. If you are a good walker and have little luggage, you can easily walk from the station. Lawsons, 7eleven and various restaurants are just around the corner
This boutique inn is located in the Hakone Onsen area. While it doesn't have a large public bath, it boasts three private baths available at any time, suitable for 2, 3, and 4 people respectively
My stay was from January 1st to 2nd, so the meals were specially prepared by the chef for the New Year, available only for two days – a bit of luck! This inn is perfect for couples and would be even more suitable for those traveling by car
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The Japanese-style room was very spacious, clean and beautiful. We also really liked the small onsen in our room, which was pleasantly warm
TV doesn't connect to Netflix but I think the purpose of a trip here should be yo disconnect and allows you to do just that! Spacious relative to rooms we stayed at in Tokyo Definitely recommend and wish id booked more days

A bit expensive for such old rooms. Weird dark stains on the carpet in the corners of the bedroom... The sheets were clean though. The food was pretty good but not as good as some ryokans in the same price range.
🐼Environment: comfortable and quiet 🐼Food: Dinner is delicious 🐼Service: The waiter patiently introduced each dish and answered our questions carefully. 🐼Address: It’s quite close to the “Park Downtown” bus stop.
I had a great stay with my brother. Lovely breakfast and dinner. Facilities were clean and functioning well. Staff was kind and helpful. The location is a bit uphill, prepare to walk on an incline for 5 minutes.
When we arrived, we were given a welcome drink and snacks, and then we took a short break and went into the hot springs. The food was excellent, and the staff were all nice. I would love to stay here again.
This was my third time here and I was once again very satisfied with the consistent service and food. The food in particular was creative and delicious, with dishes that I wouldn't normally be able to eat
What a beautiful area. Serene environment. Prebooking of hot stone spa and jacuzzi were easily done once registration online was complete.

Relaxation for body and soul - definitely about this hotel!! If there was an opportunity, we would gladly stay longer!! Private onsen in the room and dinner and breakfast in the buffet style, after which you can't leave the table - awesome!!!!)))))
Everything was great! Thank to all staff. I like room with big bath. Food was delicious!
Separate rooms for toilet, shower, and sink afforded that privacy. The only downsides were the obvious wear and tear on the room, and the copious amounts of light switches that were not labeled
We stayed just after golden week 2025. The in-room onsen was amazing. The bed was comfy and had ample extra pillows and bedding. The room had vast amounts of space
The resort is a bit dated but the amenities are still good and the food provided was amazing

A lovely authentic Japanese experience. Food was plentiful and to a high standard just not to my Western palate. A menu would have been good to help identify some of the dishes. We loved getting dressed into our Yukatas
A wonderful hot spring experience. The detached Yamabuki private bath was small but very relaxing, washing away the fatigue of Lake Ashi. The tatami bedroom with the river flowing by was comfortable and quiet
The breakfast and dinner was superb and each dish presented was a work of art. All that being said, what made this place really stand out was the service provided by Kimiko
Her attention to detail, explaining customs, preparing the room and serving meals made our experience very special
No Wi-Fi in the room but available in the lounge. Convenient for Hakone station

Literally my first onsen experience in Japan. I feel relaxed sitting in the private onsen connected to our room. My sore muscles got much better after onsen! Amazing! Japanese dinners and breakfasts are very good too!
Lovely experience staying here. Our Wa Fuu room was modern, clean and provisioned with exquisitely comfortable floor-beds, as well a constantly-flowing private onsen with well-kept shower fixtures and tiling
The food is high quality Japanese, the room was spacious, clean and quiet and the staff were very kind and considerate. It really was a good break for a couple of nights
Stayed recently as a family of 4 with 2 young children. The long and short of it is we would definitely stay again next time we're in the area
Sweeping view of the mountains from both the room and bath. Room food service was convenient and the "set" meals were delicious
It would have been nice if there was a sauna in the public bath.

It was fresh! However, the unwavering number one is the whipped butter! The dessert is refreshing both in the evening and in the morning, and it's wonderful!
The service here is incredibly thoughtful. You can communicate directly if you have any needs, and Mr. Zhang at the reception was meticulously attentive to all our requirements. There's also a laundry service
Most importantly, if you're driving, Hakone can be quite challenging with its narrow roads, so be careful!
Overall, if this hotel is located in the city center, it can be considered. The breakfast is Western, but the taste is very ordinary. Although the dinner is a one-star Michelin hotel, it is still a little disappointing
The service was excellent, professional, and very attentive. The in-room amenities were premium and had a luxurious feel. The towels and hot spring attire were made from high-quality material and felt wonderful
This hotel is the last one in Hakone. Fortunately, it is the last one because it is a bit far from the attractions in Hakone. Although it is only 10 kilometers, the transportation in Hakone is not convenient

This ryokan is perfect for people who want to experience ryokan for the first time but want something cheaper within Hakone area. Situated on the main road with buses to Owakudani and train to Odawara
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Shiunso. The meals were incredible and both private onsens, as well as the private bath in our room, were amazing. All staff were kind and helpful
I'd recommend catching the bus from Odawara to this ryokan since the walking trail from the closest station to this place is hilly and has lots of stairs
We had a room with a private onsen which was beautiful and overlooked the river. It was so lovely to hear the water rushing and all the nature sounds
Main road is not very luggage friendly so pack very light when you're staying here. This place has very nice rooms with view to the river behind it
Lovely ryokan with amazing food !! Highly recommend the private baths too for anyone that’s new to onsen experience. 😆

One that we will remember fondly for sure !! Amazing experience with the hotel dining in a private room, loved the onsen in our room , only wished we could spend more nights here ! Thank you for making our first Ryokan experience a memorable on
The overall service and facilities were excellent, especially the open-air bath in the room, which was fantastic. It was a bit disappointing, however, that we couldn't arrange dinner on Christmas Eve and had to eat out.
interesting balinese onsen ryokan. service was great, i couldn’t take raw food and my husband is allergic to prawns and they took notice for it and didn’t serve them during our half board meals (breakfast and dinner)
the onsen water is certified to be natural and we could read the details of the certification from both the hotel reception and room toilet. the private in room open air onsen’s temperature can be adjusted as well
however the room’s shower’s door was not completely sealed and we found it very chilly to bathe even tho there was hot water supplied as the constant cold air from outside would come in
fabulous experience - food was interesting and delicious. the room was lovely looking out to the Mountains with our Private bath. I would recommend this as a Ryokan experience
