I think it is a very good hot spring hotel that is reasonably priced for those who wish to stay without meals. For train lovers, the nearby Ohiradai station is the best.
We had to unexpectedly stay in Hakone for one night longer than we thought, and there were actually no available hotels
We booked this hotel, a little scared by the reviews, but everything went great!
We ve booked through Booking. The room is in a traditional style, clean, with a very beautiful view of the mountains
Yes, this is not a luxury hotel, but value for money is good. From a bus stop you need to go 5 minutes uphill
Nestled on a quiet hilltop in the small village of Ohiradai the Harriway Summit View Onsen Hotel is a perfect rest stop for those visiting the Hakone area
There is no shower in the room, you can only take a shower in the onsen. The onsen itself is small, but hot
I highly recommend buying snacks and drinks at Hakone Station or a convenience store before departure. If you contact the accommodation upon arrival at Goura Station, they'll come pick you up at Goura Station by car
And once we arrived in Hakone, we could take the opposite train to Goura Station, the station closest to our accommodation, which was incredibly convenient!
We decided to spend the first day of our two-day, one-night stay entirely in the hotel's hot springs and spend the second day sightseeing
Be sure to take advantage of their free pick-up service!
The accommodation offers an open-air bath and a private bath, both of which can be rented for one hour
The accommodation is located deep in the mountains, so there's nothing nearby, and the slopes are incredibly steep, making walking around the area difficult
First of all, there's a train from Shinjuku to Hakone, so it was very accessible
I highly recommend it, but if it's fully booked and you can't make it, you can always use the indoor family bath! Please be mindful of the opening times, as all hotel guests use it

Very friendly and helpful reception. Also the lady in the restaurant. Sauna and public onsen were great. We also got timeslot for private onsen. The location is about 10 minutes walk from station but quite hilly road
For a one-night stay package that included two meals, all-you-can-drink alcohol, and a private onsen, it was absolutely flawless. The service was very friendly, although their English was a bit limited
The pajamas provided were very comfortable, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious! The subway station is right across the street, just a stone's throw away
It was a nice walk when we did not drag our luggages. View from our room was excellent
The area is very quiet, and a morning stroll around the Imperial Palace was lovely
Definitely the best value for money in Hakone Yumoto!
The hotel is located right outside Gora Station. Very convenient with buses, train, or cable car connection. We use luggage delivery service to send the luggage to Hakone Yumoto after check out
Can get a bit loud in the room in the morning- if your windows are facing the Main Street. Sound isolation is not the strongest side of the rooms design. Very good breakfast - scrambled eggs were perfect
They do have an onsen which was also pretty clean and nice. I had a shared bathroom, which I not always a fan of but it was clean and gender separated. I recommend this location for your Hakone stay
I stayed here 1 night during my Hakone visit and I am so glad for this place because the hotel I stayed in prior night was just awful (separate review on it)
Room was spacious and clean
One of the best decisions I made is staying here. Hotels in Hakone area are pricey. WPU hotel is more affordable compared to others in the area. We can see the sunrise from our room
Great place to stay in Hakone, we really enjoyed our 2 nights stay which included breakfast (good variety and fresh!). The onsen was also a nice surprise in the hotel

They were also kind enough to call up our pick up service for us when we checked out. It was a 4 degree celsius night when we stayed but I ended up sleeping without covers as we were toasty and warm indoors
Stayed in a very beautiful, spacious traditional japanese room. Very nice personnel that provided me and my friend with beautiful Yukatas to wear after bath. Onsen was small but still beautiful and clean
Sliding doors, floor beds, traditional gowns given to us to wear during our stay. The staff were very nice, gave us a tour of our room and how to use the facilities
Such a beautiful sight to behold. Placed between the gorgeous Hakone forest trees. Inside it's quite modern but with a strong Japanese feel
Had a really great experience here
I thought the hotel was a hidden gem with only 2 minor negatives: the hotel is only 250 metres from the bus stop but older guests with heavy luggage will get a workout as they climb the slope

Limited parking space available. There is a long staircase in front of the resort so please be aware if you are bringing large luggage. Room is spacious and the open-air bath is larger than expected
The room was decent, and the private hot spring was good too. The only downside was the lack of a car; climbing up the mountain was exhausting
From the parking lot to the entrance of the hotel was kinda fun in the beginning, after 2 - 3 times of climbing it, it gets pretty annoying, sometimes hotel does provide a little shuttle golf cart service, but sometimes they are not there
The scenery is beautiful and refreshing, but it’s just inconvenient to carry luggage around.
This hotel is located in a hidden place !
Car navigation doesn’t have it registered yet, it was kind of hard to find. Better go with a car, otherwise you spend tons of time waiting for transportation
Dinner needed to be booked three days in advance, but I couldn't find any information about it, and not wanting to climb back down, I had to buy instant noodles at the hotel. The service was alright, supposedly 24-hour
Note that in addition to the hotel room rate, there's an onsen tax in Hakone, payable for both overnight and non-overnight stays, calculated based on the room rate, but it's not expensive
We had an amazing stay here! The staff were so welcoming and hospitable, answering all of our questions and helping with our bags. They also helped us with suggestions on what to do around Hakone
I'm not sure if it's considered a guesthouse. There's no Chinese service, but English is acceptable. It's managed by Nepalese people. The service and facilities are quite good
Although it's small, it was more than enough for the four of us, and the onsen water was excellent; we felt very comfortable afterward
The hotel room was also nice; it was spacious, next to a small river, and had a small balcony—I thought it was great. My friend said they'd stay here again next time
The hotel's main onsen (hot spring) is closed until 10 PM, but we could still use the small underground bathroom next door afterwards

The gentleman carried our luggage up three flights of stairs to our room, and insisted on driving us to our destination multiple times. The onsen honestly was a life-changer
The owners were really good people, especially okamisan. She was really caring and always helped us during our stay. The restaurants and facilities around the ryokan is limited
Such an amazing experience!! Experienced the best hospitality from the couple that owns this ryokan - they did everything to make sure our stay was perfect. The room, onsen, and ryokan as a whole were all fabulous.
Of note, the 7-11 is within easy downhill walking distance, but ask about the shortcut up the stairs and through the shrine to get back - we took the hill the first night and it was rough, but after the gentleman showed us the stairs it was much easier! The owners also supplied us with hot water multiple times daily, so we could enjoy cup noodles in our room (my partner also enjoyed the tea they supplied
Tsukinoya is easily the most magical place we’ve ever stayed. We stayed three nights, but wish that we’d stayed longer. The couple who own Tsukinoya are the sweetest, most helpful people
We also wanted to try a traditional ryokan and this place hit all the check points: it is traditional, maybe a little outdated but it is part of the charm, in a good area and it has 2 onsens which you can use it private for 50 mins at any time (even at night)

Because the mountain roads are rugged and difficult to walk, it's best to take a bus rather than hike. Remember to take a photo of the departure time to avoid missing the bus or waiting too long
The bathroom is shared!
There's a sink in the room, but going to the bathroom in the early morning can be inconvenient. If you don't know the location, it might be difficult to get there
We stayed in Chidori, which was on the second floor without an elevator, so we had to carry our luggage upstairs. It was spacious and had a simple river view
Whether you're using a card or a pass, you need to swipe or present your pass when you get on board and swipe or present it again when you get off. Remember, the Izu Bus does not accept passes
We booked a two-meal package, which includes two time slots for dining, which is recommended, as many restaurants in Hakone close around 5 PM, making it difficult to find food, except for 7-Eleven and Lawson
I was afraid that we'd be cold there in November but we managed to heat the room really well with the AC. We could easily book a private onsen room just for us upon arrival

The freshly cooked omelettes were especially delicious!
The only thing to note is that we arrived on a day of heavy snowfall (8th February 2026), meaning that the shuttle bus couldn’t collect us from Odawara Station due to accidents on the roads
Stayed here for one night after staying at a more traditional onsen for two nights. Arrived at Gora Station and the hotel car was there within minutes. The reservations team shared a WhatsApp that we could call
Upon arrival, we waited over an hour in the cold for the hotel transport to collect us before we gave up and decided to walk as it was getting dark and the temperature was dropping even more
There was only one other couple in there the whole time!
We really enjoyed the breakfast - there was so much choice (Japanese and Western) and everything was so fresh
After waiting around for several hours, we did eventually manage to get a few local trains to Gora Station, where the hotel said that they could pick us up
Once we eventually made it to the hotel, the staff that greeted us weren’t overly sympathetic and took quite a long time to check us in

We loved this hotel; it's much cuter in person than in the photos. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. They have private bathrooms, two inside and two outside
They were very clean and had everything you need (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer, etc. We had no problem using them since there was always one available
You can borrow slippers, yukatas (these are also for using the outdoor bathroom), umbrellas, and have hot or cold water and tea
The room had a table, a small balcony with a refrigerator, another table by the window, and a sink. We weren't cold at all since there were plenty of blankets and an air conditioner
There was also a television and a dehumidifier, although we didn't use them. Some reviews mention that the location isn't great or that there aren't any restaurants nearby
Considering it was one of the cheapest options in Hakone for those dates, and with the possibility of enjoying a private onsen, we thought it was a very good deal

I can't wait to come back!
We loved our stay! It's a beautiful and very large traditional Japanese house where you feel right at home. Furthermore, the host's kindness greatly contributed to our enjoyable experience
The host was lovely and welcoming and did her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The homemade breakfast and the bath were the highlights of the stay. Would definitely stay here again
An older traditional ryokan. The hostess was so kind and provided delicious meals. There is a small onsen available as well.
The kids adored the place and the owners, it’s like staying with loving grandparents. A very traditional, authentic Japanese household with natural hot springs, and traditional bath robes provided
The breakfast was very traditional and generous, we enjoyed it with green tea and sitting on the floor with low table. Very grateful for this experience. We will definitely recommend and return
It really feels like living in your own home. The grandparents at the B&B are very kind. Although communication is a bit difficult, the room has a small living room and a bedroom

The hotel staff spoke English better than most hotels in Tokyo, and we enjoyed a casual chat every time we met. The basement common area was very comfortable, with chess and poker boards available for borrowing
There was also a shared kitchen and laundry room. Unfortunately, strong winds and heavy rain hit both days of our stay, and the Hakone Tozan train was out of service, so we had to go to the hot springs resort
Coolest hostel I have ever stayed in Japan, the staff was so friendly and everyday was a vibe. I really enjoyed talking with the staff at night, also met some really cool solo travelers as well
And the common space? poetry
Staff are super friendly and helpful
Near a bus station and train station, easy to get there!
a lot of previous memories were made, wished i stayed longer
A truly enjoyable hotel experience with friends!
The family room, located one floor up the stairs, was quieter, with a spacious tatami area and a view of the nearby art museum
The hotel has a kitchen, so you can buy ingredients and cook for yourself, and there's a 7-Eleven and Lawson nearby, which is really convenient for grabbing things
Very nice and clean. The outdoor hot spring is nice. You can use it for free for an extra 500 yen. The landlord cleaned the wheels of my suitcase every day before bringing it to the room. The bathroom is shared~
Wonderful “family” like experience. From spending time in the sitting room, the cosy bedrooms with their little personal origami models, to the onsens. For me this was a deeply personal and lovely place to stay
Good location. Two onsens, one indoor and another one outdoor. No additional fee, just have to book a time. Very welcoming hosts. Buffet breakfast at a reasonable price. Very good sleep quality.
Rooms basic as expected and local restaurant (China House) for dumplings and noodles was great value and the food was gorgeous
Host was able to answer all our questions and showed enthusiasms for us to see Fiji and luckily we got out early on the first bus and saw a glimpse from the cable car! Breakfast is basic but again he makes a great effort to make western style breakfast
I can see a cherry blossom tree when I look up, but it was not in bloom when I went there, which was a pity. The room was very comfortable. There was a bamboo forest outside the window
Very cozy youth hostel, the proprietress is very nice and gentle!!! The house is not big but very clean and tidy, the windows are big and bright, looking out through the windows is like a painting! The proprietress also prepared a map centered on the youth hostel, with the routes and times of various attractions marked, and helped to book hot springs and restaurants, which is simply great!!! The beds...
The administrator is super nice! He will recommend you a route and ask if you want to go to the hot springs. He will also tell you what activities are happening in Hakone recently. The hostel is a room with four beds
When I stayed in the room, other people were very quiet, and everyone was of high quality. It was also safe and reassuring for girls to come alone. There is also a kitchen in the living room for use
The landlady can speak English and introduces restaurants and hot springs to us very kindly. She also enthusiastically helps us make reservations by phone and does her best to help guests
The administrator will help you make an appointment! I highly recommend taking a hot spring bath! It seems that there are natural hot springs on the mountains of Hakone
The location is easy to find, just opposite the famous Hotel Fujiya. Get off at Miyanoshita Station and it's not far away, or take the bus to Miyanoshita Onsen

Just bring and put a mosquito repellant when you stay outside of the hostel, it is given because Hakone is located in a mountain area with lots of trees
Nice guesthouse in the mountain. Very helpful and nice staff. Privacy in dorm. Onsen in the shower.
Be warned, Japanese rural bus schedules are a real headache! Make sure to check the bus times carefully for both your inbound and outbound journeys
Our first Rykon experience was so memorable for us. We enjoyed every moment of it. Room service was so enjoyable. The only thing that I didn’t like was the food, food was ok, it wasn’t as perfect as other services
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, amazing view. The private Onsen was so relaxing, especially in the cooler weather. We had the five-course dinner and breakfast all delivered to our room
My husband and I visited Hakone Tokinoshizuku in December 2025 and the stayed in the deluxe room La Tache. , our concierge Yuka gave us a wonderful and personalized experience

The ryokan is not far from the Sonzan ropeway station, about 10 minutes on foot. If you agree in advance, they can meet you by car for free, and also take you to the station when you leave
This hot spring inn is about a 15-minute walk from Sounzan Station on the cable car line
It is a very traditional Japanese hot spring hotel with a sense of age. Although it has a sense of age, it is very clean and has a high overall quality. Several Japanese aunts are very cute and keep the hotel in order
The boss is very good and patient and helped me a lot. The location of the hotel is very secluded and surrounded by forests, but the hotel shuttle bus is very good and responsive
There is a steep slope on the way there, so if you have concerns about your legs, I recommend asking the inn for a free shuttle to Gora Station. The inn is a little old, but it is kept clean
The public onsen is so-so, I recommend taking a private one for 2000 yen for 45 minutes. It is outdoors and has more atmosphere. I liked the kaiseki, the breakfast is also in Japanese style
