Amazing experience here.... One that we will remember fondly for sure !!
Amazing experience with the hotel dining in a private room, loved the onsen in our room , only wished we could spend more nights here !
Thank you for making our first Ryokan experience a memorable on
The overall service and facilities were excellent, especially the open-air bath in the room, which was fantastic. It was a bit disappointing, however, that we couldn't arrange dinner on Christmas Eve and had to eat out.
fabulous experience - food was interesting and delicious.
the room was lovely looking out to the Mountains with our Private bath...
the service was lovely....
I would recommend this as a Ryokan experience. Just use the luggage transfer service from arrival at the Station in Hakone to save you getting your bags up the hill.....
its easy to come down when leaving.
The staff were really helpful and really nice
The food was great too
The room is really nice and has the sauna in the room. It is really private but when showering you need to sit on the stool to ensure the opposite no one is looking at you
Well service.Staff was very nice and helpful. We are so surprised the food.
Very Appreciate.Look forward next time.

An absolutely amazing experience! I've stayed in countless top-tier hotels over the years, and Gōra Kadan is, without a doubt, the best!
The service was incredibly thoughtful. They offered on-demand shuttle service to all the attractions in Gora, which was a lifesaver, especially avoiding walking in the cold winter. I highly recommend booking a room with a private onsen, as the bookable private baths and the public bath don't compare to the experience of soaking in your own room.
Our stay at this luxury ryokan was simply magnificent in every aspect: the service, atmosphere, grounds, cleanliness, and the genuine care and attention to detail were all exceptional.
From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost reverence and attentiveness, making us feel like honored guests and part of the ryokan family. As Russian guests, we were particularly impressed by the thoughtful...
Very suitable for family travel!
When we arrived, three hotel staff greeted us and helped us with our luggage. The whole accommodation experience was very good, with thoughtful details and a warm feeling. When we left the hotel, we sat in the lobby to enjoy the view. The manager took the initiative to serve tea and asked about our itinerary and needs. He sent a car to take us to Gora Station. I give it a thumbs up.
When checking in, the hotel will explain the tourist route of Hakone. It's a no-brainer to check in and just follow the map provided by the hotel.
The service exceeded my expectations. I felt like a princess returning home during my stay. I thought this was the standard Japanese service. But later I stayed in other hotels and found that the service of Gora Kadan is far better than other hotels of...

This is the best Ryokan I have visited in Japan. I’d like to stay again soon.
Thank you to the hotel for the surprise flowers 💐 and the thoughtful butler service! They also replied to my emails very quickly, which was great!
The most amazing experience of this trip to Japan... I'll just show you the pictures, words can't describe it. Even the skincare products were exceptionally good; I want to buy some, but I don't know the brand. I saw them at the hotel, please reply!
A top choice for hot springs, with a variety of private baths to satisfy all your needs. The Japanese breakfast and kaiseki dinner were both delicious, with different dishes served on two separate days. It truly lives up to the saying, "Expensive things are good in every way except for the price!" I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Hakone for hot springs.
The highlight of this trip was staying at this hotel. First of all, for hot spring lovers, this hotel has both private baths in the room and private baths that require payment, as well as excellent public hot springs. The hot springs are very unique, with dense bamboo forests outside, creating a beautiful and private environment. The hotel's food is also of excellent quality. Unlike popular buffets...
The hot spring in the room and the private and public baths are both very good. The hotel meals are also OK.

Massive snow form over the weekend of Feb 7-9 2026. Communication with the hotel was putting me on the verge of a mental breakdown because they weren’t giving us the most updated info. I had a big luggage with me and asked the staff if they could hrko me push it up the hill as the hotel is located at the bottom of a steep slope. This was not disclosed on the hotel website, which was deceiving. The...
A wonderful authentic Japanese experience. Great service despite us not speaking the same language (They are very adept at using Google translate). Good Location for Hakone Open Air Museum and for being able to get on the bus back to the station early before it gets so crowded it doesn't stop for more passengers. I didn't manage to use the pass for the baths over the road, but great to have that included...
The room size was pretty good, offering great value for money considering it's in the mountains and part of a well-known chain. We could even access the hot spring park at the sister hotel across the way, though we didn't go in since we weren't with kids. The complimentary dinner was a set menu, not the yakiniku buffet we initially thought, but with an extra dish, it was pretty much enough for two...
Great 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I stayed here for sightseeing in Hakone and to visit Yunessun. It's a tranquil ryokan with a small number of guests, so I could enjoy a peaceful stay. The room was spacious compared to a business hotel, very clean, and allowed for a relaxing time. I had already planned to visit an onsen, so the lack of a private bath wasn't an issue. Since there are few guest rooms, the public bath was almost like...
Overall, my stay was very satisfying. The hotel's location is convenient, with smooth traffic access nearby, making it perfect for both sightseeing and business trips.

We had an amazing stay! Will definitely book again in the future.
Room is huge for Japanese standard , of course we paid a lot for it.
It may have looked good 10 years ago but it is only ok in today’s standard .
Bad thing - NO VIEW ! our room with a Huge balcony faced a car park , I guess that’s why they sell this room to Non-Members . Thus the Balcony serve no purpose bcos there’s no view .
Parking is easy , including access to basement parking .

I didn't get the service I expected. The room was spacious and the amenities were good, but the customer service was a bit off. I felt like they prioritized employees over the customer experience.
While relaxing in the open-air bath in your room, look at the river flowing right next to you, close your eyes and listen to the sound of the flow. Heavenly paradise.
Ordered in a hurry the day before. Many hotels in Hakone, such as Kanaya and Hiramatsu, have been visited, but this hotel has a very good mood, because the baths are from two sources, the rooms are kept clean, and there are many children with children. excellent attitude towards food, the fact that the food, mainly consisting of fish, is not cost-effective, and the sound of the water and the night...

This little gem was just incredible. We stayed for two nights in the Kisaian Ai suite. Very traditional room with a private onsen. Provided yukata's are gorgeous. The futon beds were super comfy. Food was next level and so is the service. I didn't want to leave. Such a special experience.
This boutique inn is located in the Hakone Onsen area. While it doesn't have a large public bath, it boasts three private baths available at any time, suitable for 2, 3, and 4 people respectively. Several other rooms also have private baths; I stayed in one of them.
The room features a Japanese-style design with Western-style bed frames. The private bath is semi-open-air, allowing you to enjoy the...
This was a great experience for us! The Ryokan Yushintei is near Hakone-Yumoto Station, about 5-10 minutes by taxi aprox. When we arrived, the man received us very politely and kind while recommending us the different services. But the best part was when we discovered our room: traditional Japanese, beautiful architecture and design, and having a private onsen inside the room. You can also have a bath...
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The Japanese-style room was very spacious, clean and beautiful. We also really liked the small onsen in our room, which was pleasantly warm. Guests also have the option of using the hotel's 3 private onsens for 40 minutes at a time; the individual bathing chambers are lockable. This means that people with tattoos can also enjoy a warm bath here :)

The staff are so sweet. Their goal is to give you an authentic Japanese experience. It's serene, calming. Great for a relaxing vacation.
The residence is a bit far from main strip but so worth it. TV doesn't connect to Netflix but I think the purpose of a trip here should be yo disconnect and allows you to do just that! Spacious relative to rooms we stayed at in Tokyo
Definitely recommend and wish...
I chose this hotel because one blogger recommended it, and I got what I wanted - a beautiful and open-air onsen. There are 2 of them and both are private. The first onsen has 2 pools. In one of them, the top layer is hot, and the bottom layer is little bit cool. But when you get in, the temperature stabilizes. In the second pool the water is hotter, but it is open-air. In the second onsen the temperature...

The experience was above and beyond expectation. The room and onsen were phenomenal ways to wind down after all of our sightseeing and exploration.

This place was nice for the money and the big selling point was the breakfast dinner plan that is worth getting
Overall is good, but food wise can be improved
The hotel was very comfortable, and the staff were incredibly enthusiastic and friendly. There's a hot spring for bathing, and it includes a one-night stay with two meals. The food selection was extensive and very rich. Overall, it's excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

Very impressed with the dinner. Tempanyaki style. Cooked on the spot. Very elaborate dinner with finer details.Treat you like king. Bravo
I had a great stay with my brother.
Lovely breakfast and dinner.
Facilities were clean and functioning well.
Staff was kind and helpful.
The location is a bit uphill, prepare to walk on an incline for 5 minutes.
When we arrived, we were given a welcome drink and snacks, and then we took a short break and went into the hot springs. The food was excellent, and the staff were all nice. I would love to stay here again.
This was my third time here and I was once again very satisfied with the consistent service and food.
The food in particular was creative and delicious, with dishes that I wouldn't normally be able to eat.
I'll definitely come back when I want to relax.
What a beautiful area. Serene environment. Prebooking of hot stone spa and jacuzzi were easily done once registration online was complete.
The hot spring is only public and is charged on top of the room rate.
The mountain view is OK, but unfortunately we didn't encounter good weather.
It's a long steep slope from Gora Station. Not recommended if you have a lot of luggage.

Since we were on a hot spring trip, the hot spring water was the most important factor in choosing a ryokan. Since the private rooms didn't have bathrooms, the price was relatively low. Good service & nice room with friendly staff
Beautiful and super comfortable room, they speak good English and the nonsense is a spectacle.
I really enjoyed it. It was my first time at a ryokan. I liked the onsen too, but we didn't take the private one, but the prices were very reasonable. The kaiseki is good. I wish the breakfast had more variety. The main thing is the Friendly tattoo.
It’s a beautiful ryokan with a good onsen. It’s tatoo friendly, it was important for me. There were a lot of the Japaneses, so I think it is also a good sign for the place. Staff knows English very well and dinners and breakfasts was tasty

Hakone Kogen Hotel is perfect for those looking to unwind in a peaceful natural setting. Surrounded by greenery, the atmosphere was calm and refreshing, making it a great escape from the busy city. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a nice traditional touch that added to the overall experience.

I totally recommend it.
Just be aware that the onsens are naked and they separate females and males. I recommend to book for a private onsen and you can be with your partner
I opted for a two-meal option and would recommend this place to everyone; I think it's quite good value for money. However, there's no shower in the room, so you have to go to the public bathhouse to shower, and then you can soak in the hot spring. If you don't like soaking in the hot spring with a group, they have private bathhouses available for booking at 3500 yen per hour. I recommend them to everyone
The food was great and the open-air bath was the best. I will visit again. It was near the lake so the atmosphere was good and it was a quiet place so I could rest quietly.
A very local hot spring hotel. Although the facilities are old, it is cost-effective.
The hotel service is first-class, the room is large enough, clean and hygienic. It is close to the bus station and Taoyuandai Station. The dinner is also very rich. I enjoy soaking in the hot spring. The only drawback is that there is no shower room in the room. I have to go to the large bath every time.

Yamagaso was a wonderful surprise after a very disappointing stay the week before at Arima Onsen. This property is beautiful and our room with a garden view was more pleasant than any any place that we’ve stayed around the world. The rooftop onsen is a very special experience to not miss. The breakfast and dinner was superb and each dish presented was a work of art.

A lovely authentic Japanese experience.
Very welcoming hosts.
Food was plentiful and to a high standard just not to my Western palate. Very fish orientated. A menu would have been good to help identify some of the dishes.
We loved getting dressed into our Yukatas. No Wi-Fi in the room but available in the lounge. Convenient for Hakone station.
A wonderful hot spring experience. The detached Yamabuki private bath was small but very relaxing, washing away the fatigue of Lake Ashi. The tatami bedroom with the river flowing by was comfortable and quiet. I'll definitely come back to Hakone next time.
Amazing experience of staying in Japanese Ryokan.
It is a bit dated but very authentic and enjoyable for couple of nights
This was, without a doubt, the best accommodation experience of my life. Everything was wonderful, every aspect was perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the lodge was magnificent. Super love this ryokan especially the meals included (breakfast and dinner). Very good hospitality by staff. Would definitely recommend if anyone would like to experience the Japanese culture and onsen in this beautiful town
A nice hotel with excellent onsen and a pleasant mountain view from the room. The men's and women's baths are switched every evening so you can try both. The food is an acquired taste; I found it too pickled and not enough fish and meat. A delicious dessert was available for breakfast. There were missing instructions on how to make your futon; it would be nice to have some for foreigners staying at...
Location is good. Need to walk about 6 mins from the station. nice view from the window. Onsen is quite good, hot water, bubble tube, big outdoor tube. Food is so much delicious, a lot of plates with different dishes. But not all japanese cuisine, more kind of mixed. But still realy good. Thanks for the stay, we’ll definetly book again, when return!
It's a fairly traditional Japanese inn; the breakfast and dinner were decent, and the staff were very welcoming.
The soundproofing was a bit poor, but otherwise it was quite good. For the price in Hakone, it's pretty good value, and with the Hakone Free Pass, it's convenient to take the train to Gora. It's about a 7-10 minute walk to the station.
Pretty nice place and very kind staff
Nice rooms with mountain view as well as onsen. They are good!
The seat is a short walk from the station, and it's a bit tiring to drag the suitcase but it's acceptable. Most of the guests staying here are Japanese, and there are few foreigners. The dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel are both rich and delicious, which is a reason to come again.

It's a good place, for the first time I managed to live in a traditional Japanese style, I liked everything, I advise everyone!
I originally thought that the Hakone Onsen Hotel was too expensive and the cost-effectiveness of traveling alone was not high, so I chose a youth hostel. The experience of 3 days and 2 nights was more than I expected.

Clean and sanitary, with hot spring facilities.
The service was excellent
Suitable for solo travel
But the location is really bad
There are only one or two buses passing by in an hour, otherwise you have to walk up the mountain for 10-15 minutes.
This is a wonderful hostel with an indoor and outdoor Onsen. It has a lovely living area and a well kitted out kitchen with free tea and coffee. The staff are all very welcoming and very helpful. My two teenage girls loved staying here.
Just to note, it is an uphill walk from the train station. There is a bus but it is not very frequent.
Hot spring hotel. Not many people in winter. It is very convenient to walk from Odakyu Line. It is very convenient to have Hakone Ticket.
The outdoor hot spring is great.
Booked this onsen hostel last minute because I needed a room with a toilet.
I didn’t try their onsen, but the bathroom was okay—though there aren’t many amenities provided. They do offer laundry service, which you can enquire about.

The location is average, the hotel may be too old, the room is a bit damaged and rusty, the hot spring is too small, the facilities are a bit old, there is no view from the window, one night and two meals are not surprising, the cost performance is not high
This hot spring inn is about a 15-minute walk from Sounzan Station on the cable car line.
There is a steep slope on the way there, so if you have concerns about your legs, I recommend asking the inn for a free shuttle to Gora Station.
The inn is a little old, but it is kept clean.
Both the food and the hot springs exceeded my expectations, so I was very satisfied.
The ryokan is not far from the Sonzan ropeway station, about 10 minutes on foot. If you agree in advance, they can meet you by car for free, and also take you to the station when you leave. We stayed just after golden week 2025. Service was good. The in-room onsen was amazing. The bed was comfy and had ample extra pillows and bedding. The room had vast amounts of space. Prefect for a honeymoon. Separate rooms for toilet, shower, and sink afforded that privacy.
The only downsides were the obvious wear and tear on the room, and the copious amounts of light switches that were not labeled
The service as perfect the day to day employees were always where they needed to be and would love to go the extra mile for you. Shame the whole place looks so worn. Very nice hotel with a private bath and a good buffet. The distance is a bit far from the station however, and ¥50,000 a night feels a bit too pricy for what it is.

This is a Premium high $$$ stay, you will feel very fancy here.
The private Onsen is the best I have ever had the pleasure of using (it is 1000% worth the surcharge)
The only issues I had with my stay were some inconsistencies with the online posting and the english room instructions they appeared a little out of date (for example they both listed a dinner that was not available for our stay)
Probably the best hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Amazing staff with unparalleled Japanese service, super clean, fantastic onsen. FREE ALCOHOL, best breakfast ever.
No words to say how much we enjoyed our stay.
Overall, I good experience however there are some strange rules. For example, you cannot enter the hotel for several hours before your check-in at 6pm because they’re cleaning. Teh took care of us and the Kaiseki in room meals were fantastic culinary adventures with local ingredients and immaculate display. Teh was SO NICE and really took great care of us - she served us every meal in room and made sure we had all we needed. Everyone spoke English and made it easy. We felt...
A magical, unforgettable experience at a traditional ryokan with superior service and attention to detail. We stayed in a room with a private outdoor garden onsen and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding - delicious, generous, and meticulously prepared. We are especially grateful to Satoko who took care of us during our stay. We will always remember her thoughtful...
This traditional Japanese inn was the perfect place to relax and wind down after 2 sightseeing days in Tokyo prior! We were greeted at the door and immediately given green tea and cookies. Our maid showed us our room which was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in one with a private onsen and the scenery felt like something out of an enchanted garden fairytale. The food was so fresh and exquisite and...
An amazing stay in a beautiful tranquil place. Our room was a good size and the onsen was wonderfully relaxing. The food provided was plentiful and delicious, with a large range of Japanese dishes served for both breakfast and dinner, make sure you leave enough room for all 11 courses! However, the best thing about the place was the service, our nakai-san could not do enough for us, neither could...
I was able to reach the ryokan via self-drive using Google Maps. I thought I reached the wrong place but the staff seemed to be looking out for guests and signalled the direction to the entrance when I was outside which was great service! The highlight was the room which came with a very nice private outdoor onsen. However, there were a lot of mosquitoes at dusk when I used the onsen after I reached...

Great place to stay in Hakone, we really enjoyed our 2 nights stay which included breakfast (good variety and fresh!). The onsen was also a nice surprise in the hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds are soft and comfortable. The staff is super friendly.
One of the best decisions I made is staying here. Hotels in Hakone area are pricey. WPU hotel is more affordable compared to others in the area.
The staff are really nice. The room is clean. We can see the sunrise from our room. Other guests are friendly. Nice breakfast. Nice onsen. The hotel is located right outside Gora Station. Very convenient with buses, train, or cable car connection. We use...
The hotel is well located to visit Hakone.
The bedrooms are very comfortable especially with the private onsen. The walls are thin, it may little bit noisy. Light sleepers may be disturbed.
The staff is professionnal and accommodating.
The dinner taste good and copious.
Very good hotel. Can get a bit loud in the room in the morning- if your windows are facing the Main Street. Sound isolation is not the strongest side of the rooms design. They provide earplugs tho. Very clean. Very good breakfast - scrambled eggs were perfect.
Onsen is nice and accommodations are top level.
Its located right outside the train station. I stayed here 1 night during my Hakone visit and I am so glad for this place because the hotel I stayed in prior night was just awful (separate review on it)
Room was spacious and clean. They do have an onsen which was also pretty clean and nice. I had a shared bathroom, which I not always a fan of but it was clean and gender separated.
Breakfast was good...
Very good location for easy access to the various sightseeing spots in Hakone. The staff were all friendly and spoke good English. Dinner was delicious and healthy.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Shiunso. The meals were incredible and both private onsens, as well as the private bath in our room, were amazing. All staff were kind and helpful. We left feeling very restored and relaxed. Highly recommended!
If you are wanting traditional Japanese, we had dinner and breakfast in our room with Japanese Bath included absolutely awesome highly recommended if you want old school Japanese hotel.
We had a room with a private onsen which was beautiful and overlooked the river. It was so lovely to hear the water rushing and all the nature sounds. We had dinner and breakfast included, traditional multi course Japanese meals.
Lovely ryokan with amazing food !! Highly recommend the private baths too for anyone that’s new to onsen experience. 😆
Loved staying here to relax. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Although limited English, communication was not an issue. Loved the private onsen as well as the one in our room. Also very close to the bus stop without fear of being too close to cars, since going into the city there’s really not a sidewalk
Fantastic service. Fantastic food. No complaints.
