Sri Gemunu Beach Resort in Unawatuna

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Sri Gemunu, we were welcomed with incredible warmth and kindness. The service we experienced during our stay was truly exceptional. A few days before our arrival, my wife had an accident and had broken both her wrist and her foot on the left side, so she could only move around in a wheelchair. Despite this, we never once had to ask for help. The wonderful staff were always attentive and ready to assist us before we even had the chance to ask. It is difficult to highlight specific people when everyone treated us so well, but we would especially like to thank the hotel director, Mr. Aruna Pussewalle, and Dilky. Their kindness, care, and willingness to help meant a great deal to us and made our stay unforgettable. The hotel itself is beautifully located right on the beach. Every day we could watch sea turtles coming all the way up to the shoreline, which was an amazing experience. In the evenings the atmosphere was wonderful, and the sunsets over the ocean created truly memorable moments. During our stay we also met Heinz and Heike from Germany, aged 95 and 87. They have clearly fallen in love with this special place and were visiting for the 21st time. As loyal guests, they even had sunbeds reserved with their names on them – something they fully deserved. We are already looking forward to coming back to this wonderful hotel. The staff are no longer just staff to us – they feel like friends, and they will always have a special place in our hearts.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. Every room offers a wonderful ocean view, which makes the stay truly special.

The rooms are quiet, you barely hear any traffic or noise from other guests. It’s a calm, peaceful hotel, perfect for relaxing and switching off.

Our room was nice and clean. The bathroom could use some renovation, but the bedroom and especially the view more than make up for it.

Aruna, the hotel owner, was incredibly helpful and kind, and he speaks excellent English, which made everything very easy for us. But the whole staff is friendly and professional too, everyone is helpful, flexible, and attentive.

The beachfront bar has a great atmosphere, with tasty drinks and light bites. (Breakfast wasn’t really to our taste, but everything was fresh.)

Overall, I can only recommend this place, easily one of the best beachfront hotels in the area 😊

The location is absolutely perfect, with a stunningly beautiful beach that makes the experience truly special. The food was outstanding—fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. What really stood out was the excellent service; every detail was handled with care and professionalism. The staff were incredibly positive, friendly, and always ready to help, making us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay. Highly recommended, and I would love to return again!

We visited Sri Geminu resort in October 2025 with my wife and daughter. The rooms are great and with great sea view. Being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves is priceless. Service provided by the staff is exquisite, a real bespoke experience, thank you Aruna, Kasuni, Dilki! Location and beach are picturesque, miles of unspoiled beach. Turtle bay is a walking distance and a great location. Food and drinks are top level, my daughter still talks about the seafood preparations and excelent tropical juices that were served to us by Sri Geminu. Highly recomended!

Very relaxing environment and friendly staff. Food is really good and the place is very spacious. Was able to arrange a holiday out for 25 people without any issues.

What wonderful resort . the place is so calm and collective. the staff are so friendly the cannot do enough to make your stay perfect. The staff smiles are out this world , we had a good view of one best beaches in Sri Lanka . Nice for a romantic walks or even time for yourself .

We just returned from an amazing trip to the wonderful Sri Gemunu Guesthouse! We were a party of 7 adults and 5 children under 10 years old and could not have been happier with our stay! Amazing food, friendly and attentive staff, beautiful rooms overlooking the sea and a tranquil swimming pool a short walk away. The set up was perfect for the children and adults alike. Huge thanks to all the staff for looking after us so well (including a surprise birthday cake for me), with special mention to Davinda for his smile and care of the children (including their fussy eating habits!) and Ditashi for her first class cocktails 🍹 for the grown ups! Thank you for an unforgettable holiday🙏🏼!

Visited with friends for a boys night out. Had a great time at the hotel since it had a close beach access. Rooms were tidy and had no troubles with the amenities. Since the ocean shore is close to the the sound of the waves crashing was mesmerising. I could wait hours listening to the waves and was so relax.

Still here tremendously enjoying our holiday & so glad we came for the second time! Best hotel team imaginable, very attentive to every need we have, wonderful service born out of the belief to be kind. A big & Special Thank you to Dilki, Sampath x2, Rowan, Devinde (not sure about the spelling 😉), reception team and last but not least at all the kitchen staff who prepared such delicious meals for us. Beautiful location right on the ocean, the breathtaking view from our balcony into the trees & the ocean beyond never taken for granted. Going to sleep & waking up to the sound of the waves. The bay is lovely, if a little crowded further on away from the hotel, where the sea, due to an outlying reef forms a shallow sort of huge bath tub for those who just want to hang out & not be bothered by the waves. All in all just such a beautiful place on our planet! One aside which might be of decision-making interest to you: do check who is now heavily vacationing in Sri Lanka since they are banned from entering a lot of European & worldwide countries. The beauty of this place, however, clearly remains untouched.
