Batumi World Palace Hotel in Batumi

During a tour of Georgia organized by Intermèdes, I spent the night of June 1, 2024, at this hotel and stayed in room number 303. The hotel is very well located, just steps from the port and the promenade. It's quite ideal for visiting the old quarters of Batumi. The reception was rather unremarkable. The lobby is dark, with outdated decor. It's clear from the moment you arrive that the hotel is showing its age. The room I stayed in was a large room with a king-size bed, a desk, and a chair. The view overlooked the city. The decor is hardly impressive. The carpet is worn in places. The room could use a renovation. That said, it was clean. The ceiling light in the entrance to the room was broken, as was one of the bedside reading lights. It was also impossible to turn off the ceiling light from the bed. So, the room hadn't been checked before the guest's arrival! Overall, it was very dark. The bathroom has a bathtub, a toilet, and a sink. It, too, is sorely lacking in light. A major flaw is that the hot and cold water taps are installed backwards. Amenities include a safe, an empty minibar, and a television with no international channels except for numerous Russian ones. A small bottle of water is provided. The Wi-Fi works well. While the bed is comfortable, the room is noisy, especially in the evening, as it overlooks a music bar where the music is very loud. The restaurant, which also serves as a bar, is on the top floor and offers a beautiful view of the port and the coastline to the north. The service, while friendly, is completely unprofessional. The waitress doesn't know what a whiskey and coke is, and it's impossible to get a cocktail. The terrace is dirty, and the railing is covered in bird droppings. At breakfast, while the buffet is simple but adequate, the tables are not set. Although the restaurant/bar is advertised as closing at midnight, it's already long closed by 10 PM, making it impossible to have a last drink! In short, the entire service needs improvement. In a city overflowing with hotels, one wonders if this type of establishment will close soon due to its management. It's a shame.
