Meropi Hotel in Malia

First off the receptionist marianna and young blonde lady were amazing and lovely - [ ] Only drinks in all inclusive is raki, beer red wine, rose and white wine dispenser unusual tasting Coca Cola / diet, lemonade, grape fruit , unusual tasting water and orange - all other alcoholic drinks/ coffees have to be paid for even in all inclusive. - [ ] Free tea and coffee is only served at breakfast 7:30-9:45 and says 15:00-17:00 but not served at all - [ ] They say cookies tea and coffee served 15:00 - 17:00 it is not served at all - [ ] The children’s water park attached to hotel has a bar but is not part of all inclusive you have to pay for food and drinks but do get access to the slides if all inclusive - [ ] Sauna locked off used as storage room filled with tissue / brooms - [ ] Says entertainment for children no entertainment - [ ] Staff very upset looking - [ ] The big slides in the children’s bit leave marks on children’s backs/legs and head has happened before we came and continued to happen while we are here and nothing done about it - [ ] The “spa/massage” place on side it’s constantly locked never see anyone go in or anyone advertising it, just a locked closed hut - [ ] Very small tiny buffet and the waiters take away your food when still chewing your last mouthful like they can’t wait for the dining area to be all empty again - [ ] In the room the bathroom sink plug is broken does not work, the bed slats were completely broken in which staff was no surprised when told about causing the worst sleep I’ve ever had in my life for 2 days - [ ] Air con flow right on top of bed so cannot be left on due to getting ill.

Firstly, this is not a 4* hotel. We arrived home early this morning after spending a week at the hotel. We had a room with a private pool. Upon arrival, the 2 young men at reception were very miserable and looked like they were not happy to be there. The food was basic, if you like chips and pizza with salad, you will be fine. Our teenage daughter was very poorly so that put me off the food. You can’t take your own water into the restaurant, all inclusive isn’t available all day as we have previously experienced. We are quite well travelled. The entertainment was rubbish, the pools are not cleaned everyday as stated on the website. All the staff looked unhappy other than 1 barman. If we hadn’t had our own pool I would have moved hotels. The only thing that was good was the fact there were a few restaurants outside the hotel, even being AI we chose to eat elsewhere. Really disappointed and feel we overpaid for what we had.

4 stars rated location, in fact 2 stars are too much. Cleaning must improve all over, had to ask reception to clean again the room - previous guests vomited in the room, the smell persosting the balcony table with spots of coffee since arrival. Friendly restaurant service personnel,restaurant manager completely out of any common senses. Food most frozen, low and cheap quality, service like in prison...approached few times while walking with food from the buffet to the table. Had three Greek acceptable dishes only. Camomile, mints and green tea only for breakfast, the quality of coffee- went myself every day on the opposite side shop to buy coffee. I love Greece especially Creta, been in Creta several times, this make me thinking of changing the summer holidays destination. Shame...I spend 50 years in top hospitality business, taking over situations like, but never so bad like here. Can't wait to finish this nightmare.

I am not sure how this hotel has managed to get 4•, we are only on our second day and it is probably the worst we have stayed in ( we have been to a lot) The all inclusive bar consists of Raki, ouzo and brandy, beer on tap and soft fizzy drinks, absolutely everything else has to be paid for, including fruit juice. Since being here the staff have been consistently rude and appear to be miserable. We are beginning to think that it may be in their contract not to say hello or smile. There’s no water supplied in the room, you are not permitted to fill anything other than a small plastic cup up from the water machine, if you attempt to fill up anything larger you will be shouted at by the staff, and told you must buy water from the shop but you are not permitted to drink it around the pool. When we arrived at 2pm the restaurant was closed, there is nothing other than some stale biscuits until 7pm. You can only get 2 drinks a time at the bar ( there are 3 of us) The towels and bedding is changed once every 3 days not including your first day, so if you are here for 1 week you will only have them changed once. As soon as we arrived we were charged £70 tourism tax, this is a lot more than usual. If you haven’t already booked, do yourself a favour and book elsewhere where! Thank goodness the sun is shining!.
