Reviews
There were numerous restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and bars in close proximity. You didn't really need to go very far after a long day out. The harbour, waterfront, shopping streets and main attractions were all at most 20 mins walk away in different directions (except Perlan which was 30-40 mins). The whole city was walkable. I didn't have to use any transport apart from going on tours.
The service at the hotel was excellent. Friendly and professional staff. Always someone available with a smile. The cleaning staff were extremely polite.
My room was super comfortable. The bed and pillow were perfect and I slept right through. I've seen others reviews highlighting noise being an issue. My room was on the third floor and located off a central quiet courtyard that didn't face onto the main road. It was super quiet. Yes, there were a few noisy guests who didn't know how to open and close doors quietly but I think that's expected in hotels as long as they are at appropriate hours, which they were.
It was a clean and simple room with no frills which is expected in the price compared to others. However, absolutely perfect for anyone who is out and about all day. There was adequate storage, a fridge, tea and coffee, a wine glass and bathroom products. Everything that you could need.
The breakfast was fantastic. A mixture of hot food such as bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, beans and hash brown. Warm porridge. Various cereals and breads with different spreads and condiments. Ham, tomatoes, boiled eggs, yoghurts, dried and fresh fruits, nuts and seeds, and little sweet treats. It was an array of choice.
I would definitely go back here every time for the amazing location and convenience of everything around.
The room I was given, however, was so bad I left almost immediately and went to a new hotel. I had a bad feeling when I couldn't find my room, asked a staff member who was so kind to show me a back way, winding through hallways a la the backrooms and up an elevator I had to put a lot of trust in. At one point I thought I was in a Monty Python skit. When I got to the room, relieved to relax, the relief was cut short. There was holes in the wall, sideboards coming off, furniture partially destroyed. It looked in a really rough state. The bathroom floor was so cold I couldn't stand on it, and even when I turned on the heater, no heat came out of it for hours. By the time I left, the radiators still hadn't warmed up. The room was tiny and dark, and looked completely different from the room I booked. And I could hear *everything*, and I truly mean everything my neighbors were doing. It was simply not a room that I could relax in. I was so stressed out, and the jatlag surely didn't help, I found another hotel and checked out.
I'm quite disappointed by this experience because I've stayed at Center hotels before in Reykjavik and they were fantastic, so I'm not sure what's happening here. Perhaps I got the one room that's in dire need of TLC, I don't know.
The nightclub opposite the hotel can shaker the room with us bass. It is also in the center of Reykjavik so expect high traffic of people and cars creating noise. I personally was okay with it but it would have been nice if there was less noise. I would still half recommend.
The hotel is right in the heart of Reykjavík, making it very easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and main attractions. The location is definitely the highlight. However, finding parking nearby can be difficult, especially during busy hours. Overall, a great choice if you plan to explore the city on foot.
My 2nd and 3rd night was after visiting the places of interest in the Eastern side of Iceland and pending my return leg to Copenhagen again. This time round, the room I got was still acceptable (@ Level 3). However, again the toilet condition is pretty bad. The sink visibly had cracked but luckily it was not leaking. This followed by the broken shower head at the location where the hose is connected. The hotel staff replaced it with a new one but the holder is not able to hold it in place. So I have to improvise it using a thick rubber band to hold it so that I can control where it is pointing.
The breakfast is great similar to other icelandic hotels. Seems like they serve almost the same type of buffet where-ever you go.
Other than the toilet, the rest of the hotel is fine. Centralized location and easy to move around.
