White Horse Hotel in Hakuba

We had an incredible stay at the Whitehorse Hotel in Hakuba. From the moment we arrived, Tony was more than accommodating, and the entire team were personable, friendly, and genuinely went out of their way to make our stay easy and enjoyable.
The daily mountain transfers were a huge highlight. We were dropped off every morning and picked up every afternoon at a time that suited us, which made ski days completely stress free. The drying room was perfectly located and worked a treat, and the onsen was a lovely bonus. We were even lucky enough to have a private onsen one evening, which was an unforgettable experience.
Breakfasts were hearty and exactly what you need to power through long snow days on the mountain. A special mention has to go to the pastrami sandwich, which was absolutely amazing and made even better knowing Tony meticulously prepares the wagyu pastrami himself.
The rooms were comfortable, warm, and quiet, and we slept like logs every night. There was also a fantastic atmosphere throughout the hotel, with a jovial vibe among both guests and staff. Everyone genuinely seemed to be having a great time, which made the stay even more special.
We will definitely be back, assuming we can get a booking next time before it is fully booked out.

Just spent 7 nights at The white Horse with our 2 teenage sons. We cannot recommend this place enough, Tony and all his workers were all so lovely to us. Being our first time to the snow it took all the worry away knowing they would drop us off in the morning & pick us up in the afternoon at the different surrounding ski resorts. Tony organised ski lessons for us & recommend a hire place within walking distance to supply all our gear. The cooked breakfast every morning was amazing & we also dined in the restaurant a few nights when we couldn’t be bothered going out again. All our meals were delicious & the kids agree they made the best hot chocolates. Plenty of places within walking distance for dinner & the pick up point for snow monkeys tour is just down the road. We didn’t hire a car & never felt we needed one. If we ever come back we would definitely stay here again, it felt like home.

What truly set this hotel apart was the kindness and care shown by Tony and his team during an incredibly difficult time. Following a serious snowboarding accident, they went above and beyond to support us. Their compassion, patience, and willingness to help in every way possible made a world of difference.

We are so grateful to have been in such a warm and supportive environment during such a challenging experience. We look forward to the day we can come back and share a drink with Tony to say thank you in person.

The White Horse has wonderful people with exceptional customer service. Perfectly centrally located in hakuba valley for skiing. They provide transportation to and from the 10 local resorts every day. Clean and spacious rooms, and 2 great onsens. Delicious hot food at breakfast and dinner with great cold drinks. Can’t say enough great things about this hotel and staff. Will definitely be back! Thanks guy!

My hubby and I have enjoyed a wonderful 5 night stay at the White Horse Hotel. Tony was an amazing host who made sure we were looked after each day, advising us on the best resorts to go to based on the conditions and our skill level. Our room was traditional (which we love) but with a western bed, and super comfortable. We enjoyed a few drinks in the cosy bar each night before eating in or out, enjoying the company and stories of our fellow guests (some now friends) and staff who were all great for a good banter too. Loved the food on the two nights we stayed in for dinner, our burgers were delicious! The team - one of the best parts of our stay were the wonderful team of gorgeous young humans who look after Tony’s guests. Genie, Neve, Alice & Angus especially - thank you so much for looking after us so well. From the lifts to and from the slopes each day, looking after us at pres’ time and into the evening and the great banter and life chats - we really appreciate you all. Tony clearly knows how to hire the right people to represent his business and look after his customers. We cannot recommend this hotel more, and reckon it has to be the or one of the best places to stay in Echo Land. Fingers crossed dodgy knees permitting we will be back! WHITE ROOM 2/4-2/8 2025
So, like many others from Hawaii, we booked a last minute winter trip to Hakuba to board and ski. Our party consisted of myself, wife and (4) kids ranging from age 10-16. This was all our first time skiing in Japan. I usually research accommodations obsessively before trips but due to the timing, I basically booked White Horse because it said it could accommodate all of us. What I didn’t realize at the time was we by dumb luck landed in one of the most amazing boutique hotels I’ve ever experienced. The location, facilities & food were all incredible but what really made White Horse special was the staff and their leader Tony! From the second we arrived till the second we departed, they didn’t treat us like guest, they treated us like family! Each morning they would private shuttle us to a different mountain and then pick us up at what ever time we relayed. The area and conditions were so good, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the states for skiing.

Tony and the team at the White Horse made our Hakuba trip one for the memory books. His knowledge of the best places for deep turns every morning was spot on. If I ever return, which I hope to do, this will be the only place I would hope to stay again. Thank you, Tony and team, you are an amazing bunch and created a memorable week for us!
