Karagat Hotel in Karakol

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 — Comfortable Stay with Some Notable Compromises

Karagat is a pleasant hotel choice if you don’t mind compromising on a few important aspects. To begin with the positives, the rooms are impressively spacious—easily the largest we stayed in throughout our entire trip across Kyrgyzstan. The cupboards are generous in size, providing ample space for clothing and belongings, and the room comfortably accommodates multiple pieces of luggage without feeling cramped.

However, there are areas where the hotel falls short. The Wi-Fi connectivity is extremely poor; it works only near the entrance door or inside the bathroom, which can be quite inconvenient. In terms of bathroom facilities, the absence of a bidet may be uncomfortable for many Asian guests. Additionally, the hand shower was not functional during our stay, leaving only the lower tap or the overhead shower—meaning it’s impossible to shower without getting your head wet.

Breakfast options are also limited, especially for vegetarians, which may leave some guests with very few suitable choices.

Overall, if you can overlook these shortcomings, Karagat offers a comfortable stay primarily due to its room size and storage space. For us, it’s a 3 out of 5.

I stayed at Karagat Hotel in Karakol for a short visit, and overall, it was an average experience — not bad, but not great either. The hotel itself looks nice and modern from the outside, and the location is convenient, close to the main areas of Karakol.
The beds were comfortable, but they made loud creaking noises every time you moved, which became annoying at night. The electrical points near the bed didn’t work, so I couldn’t charge my phone or other devices conveniently. I informed the staff about this issue on the first day, but nothing was fixed during my entire stay.
There were frequent power cuts in the area, and surprisingly, the hotel doesn’t have a generator — something you would expect at this level. Breakfast was the same every day, with no variety or freshness. The staff seemed disorganized and not very proactive, giving the impression that they were lazy or simply uninterested in guest comfort.
Maintenance was another problem. The toilet seat cover was broken and despite several reminders, it was never fixed. Towels were not replaced regularly, and on the first two days, no foot towels were provided. Only on the third day — when I was about to leave — did they finally give one. Hand towels were also missing until the last day. Garbage was never cleared, and the room was not properly cleaned — the only thing housekeeping did was make the bed.
Overall, the hotel has potential but lacks proper management, attention to detail, and guest care. It could be a good place with better service and maintenance, but as it stands, it doesn’t justify the price or the “four-star” label.

Nice option in Karakol

I was part of a small group. My room was OK for size but had no AC. Instead, there was a poor evaporative cooler that didn't make much difference. In the end, I turned it off and opened the window. The electris sockets were in odd places. I had to put the kettle on the floor to use it. The wifi was very slow. When I tried to close the blackout curtains, I discovered that they would only half close. As it was late, I managed to peg them to the gauze curtain and cover most of the window.

The rooms are nice and big with a sofa for a sitting place. The bathrooms are good and have a different shower area. Their services was which if anything was asked for. The provide 2 bottles of water free in the room. The breakfast is okay but have a spacious sitting area. The internet is poor and you cannot depend on it. There is a shop near buy to buy snacks and other essentials.

We stayed at Karagat Hotel during our Silk Road journey as our first stop in Kyrgyzstan, arriving by land from Almaty to Karakol. This was an overnight stopover as part of our travel through the mountain areas, and we knew that hotel options in Karakol are limited. Having experienced a wide range of accommodations—from luxury to basic—this hotel unfortunately did not meet our expectations. Room Conditions & Maintenance: The hotel felt poorly maintained overall. We had issues with our shower head which we had to hold while standing in the bathtub trying to take a shower, other room toilet didn’t flash, but housekeeping staff & handyman race de responded quickly and resolved it. We saw at least four rooms, and they varied greatly in size. Most common were twin rooms, but a few were very large rooms with king-sized beds—almost too large, giving a feeling of wasted space or unfinished design. The interior design was lacking, especially when ethnic ornament’s are relatively easy to implement in Kyrgyzstan. In our room, the curtains were torn in several places and there were no proper blackout curtains, which affected sleep quality. These details left a poor impression. Breakfast & Service: I personally skipped breakfast, but those in our group who did eat described it as nothing special—just a basic meal. On the upside, staff were friendly and helpful, which did make a difference. Conclusion: If you’re just passing through Karakol and need a bed and accommodating staff for a night, this hotel might suffice. But if you’re planning to stay more than one night or are looking for comfort and style, I’d recommend exploring other accommodations in the area
