Myself, partner and family stayed in the Lion Hotel at the beginning of March for our Skiing holiday as part of the package with travel solutions. Our first impressions of the hotel were good as it appeared clean and tidy and the rooms were spacious. The food served as part of half board breakfast and evening meal was a buffet, I cannot fault the food as this was actually very nice and there was a different theme for the buffet each night for the evening meal, however breakfast remained the same each time but was to a good standard. The issue arose during the nights when trying to sleep as usually large groups of guests travel to ski and will stay out in the night life until early hours of the morning, on our second night a group of Middle Aged men were shouting and screaming up the hallway at around 1am for over an hour, when confronted they become rude and aggressive and swore at myself and partner and made threats to fight. When advising reception and security, the hotel staff could not be less interested. Myself and partner moved rooms the next day, but from speaking to other parties within the hotel which were part of the skiing classes, this issue arose night after night where people would return at the early hour of the morning causing many issues waking up guests including children who all had to wake up early to attend breakfast and their skiing lessons.

A really good hotel. Rooms are spacious. Food is good and plentiful. Rooms are always warm. The spa could do with a warmer pool and Hot Tub. Sauna and Steam all good. Location is ideal, five minutes or so to the Gondola and main bars. Have been this hotel a couple of times.

We had a lovely time skiing whilst staying at the Hotel Lion. We had a family apartment that was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is spotlessly clean and staff made a noticeable effort to keep it impeccable. The breakfast lasted for a long time and had a good variety of foods on offer and the dinner was fresh and plentiful. The log fires in the reception created a cosy atmosphere and the bar area was always buzzing after dinner. Although the swimming pool and spa area was busy at peak times, it was also spacious enough to accommodate all of the guests and was modern and to a high standard. The spa treatments on offer were also varied and high quality. The staff were very helpful too. All in all we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend staying here!

Generally our experience was good. Big rooms, very warm. Staff is always happy to help. Asked for different options if lunch and staff took it on board straight away. As well my little one dropped her tablet behind wardrobe maintenance got it without delays and etc.. Just one thing and quit major. I looked at evacuation plan and it was great. However emergency exit was locked. I asked receptionist how does it work as it did not look as magnetic door( but maybe it was). She did not even know it is exit there. So I asked in case of emergency who would lead evacuation, she did know know. Then I asked another receptionist he did not know. Would door open or know in case of fire... Which front hall is at the high risk with 2 open fires and drinking guests in front of it and kitchen behind, that exit I was questioning was only one exit available in case of emergency. But as I said no one knew anything. However staff said they will pass over message to manager which they did but management never contacted us. Then I asked our travel agency and I was told by our agent,,it should open when alarm goes off " which is not very reassuring". After I was told by agent hotel will have meeting regarding these queries. Will it happen or not... However it is clear staff did not have any trainings or drills.

Excellent Hotel. Our arrival was late and was checked in swiftly with a complementary glass of bubbly and a well received packed lunch, an excellent touch. The rooms are clean, large, and excellent for 2 with all your own gear, we also had a mountain view, which was an added bonus. The facilities are excellent: pool, sauna, spa, mini bus to the Gondola every 25mins etc. The bar area, with real fire is nice and all the staff were friendly and efficient. We stopped a week and the food was excellent every night. The breakfasts the same.
For the cost of this hotel, it can not be beaten, I can't see how you could not give it 5 stars??
Proper enjoyed our stay.
If I were to add a suggestion, it would be to have the safe deposit boxes in the room instead of at reception.
Loved it. Thanks.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a ski trip with four others, and overall, our experience was quite disappointing.

From the moment we arrived, the reception staff were extremely rude and unwelcoming. One of them, a tall and skinny man, even faked coughing and smiling as we were checking in, which felt quite unprofessional.

Despite the hotel being advertised as a 4-star, the service we received was more in line with a 3-star. I had paid extra for a double room, assuming (based on the pictures on Booking.com) that it would include a balcony. When I raised this with the blonde receptionist, she simply smirked and gave me a “nothing I can do” attitude. While I understand that I should have specifically requested a balcony or that they may have been fully booked, a better explanation and some basic customer service would have made a difference.

Another concerning issue was the lack of basic first aid. I had a cut on my leg and asked for a plaster at reception, only to be told they didn’t have any. In a supposed 4-star hotel, I would expect a stocked first-aid kit and staff who are prepared to assist guests.

The overall atmosphere among the staff was miserable—they did not seem happy to be there, which was noticeable throughout our stay.

On the positive side, the rooms were spacious and clean, and the housekeeping team did a great job maintaining them. Breakfast was also decent, with a good selection of food to start the day.

Unfortunately, the poor customer service and unprofessional attitude at reception left a bad impression. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless management improves the service and staff training.

We stayed at the hotel for a week, and booked a double room for our stay. After checking in, we were surprised to find our room had two single beds. After asking the reception for a solution, the best they could offer was pushing the beds together, and putting a large sheet on it - but they insisted they don't have a double blanket in their hotel, and so for our whole stay we slept with two different single blankets.
The spa facilities were disappointing - the jacuzzi was a part of the pool, with no divide of the warm pool water and the warm jacuzzi water (it was definitely not hot for a jacuzzi), and the jet streams were weak and almost non-existent - so the jacuzzi is just a warm, shallow, smaller part of the pool. Besides that, for a robe you have to pay to rent it for your stay, and you don't get one for yourself. In addition, other amenities that we thought were obvious for a paid guest (like a storage safe in the room) were also available only by paying extra.
The room itself was old and poorly maintained - the bath leaked water all over the bathroom floor, the closet doors were broken and the room door wasn't properly aligned to the frame, and so no we had no sound proofing from the corridor and adjacent rooms.
The breakfast was literally the same menu every day, aside from a specific dish that was on a 3-day changing routine.
The pluses we experienced were the dinner, which included beer and wine on tap and a slightly versatile menu, and the care packages the staff prepared for us on our check out because we left the hotel early in the morning and weren't able to attend breakfast.

We stayed for a week at the beginning of March in a 2 bedroom apartment and were so well looked after by staff. Positives Lovely staff, helpful and caring. Our rooms huge, beds comfortable, little mini kitchenette, sofa was also a sofa bed. 6 people could have easily stayed in this apartment (just to note 1 bathroom though). Rooms always lovely and warm, we had our windows open often as weather was very warm. Safety deposit box hireable from reception 27 lev a week. Plenty of public area in hotel to seat, bar on ground floor which was reasonably priced. Tvs showing sport for those who wanted it, a billiard table. Swimming pool was clean, a lovely 29c and empty most of the day as was gym and spa. This was great for me (non skiier).bath robes hireable from reception 20lev a week. Downstairs there were spa treatment rooms but also a steam room, quiet room and 2 saunas. Even in the evening, when we all went to the sauna there wasn't too many people. Opening times 10am until 8pm. I have seen some comments about the food but I feel these are unfounded, we are in Bulgaria not France. The food was plentiful and tasty, different themes each night, easy to eat 8+ of your 5-a-day. Always free fruit available. At dinner there was help yourself free juice plus free wines and free beer. Negatives Our rooms were at the front of hotel just above front doors, so was very noisy, I should have asked to change but we had unpacked so didn't but my partner was often woken up. Definitely suggest checking where your room is, I'm sure the back of the hotel would have been quieter. No kettle in room but we knew this from other reviews so took a travel kettle and cups. Ski hire place in hotel only took cash- Lev and you could only keep your ski stuff there if your hire stuff came from them but that said it turned out better to hire from a place near gondola that was open until 8pm. This is because you could drop all your heavy stuff close by, pick up shoes and walk back or go to a cafe without carrying everything. Also not reliant on hotel bus as was only 10 minute walk between hotel and gondola.

Love this hotel and it's sister hotel lion in borovets. Great facilities, use of spa facilities and treatments are a must and half the price of treatments back home. Bar menu and cost of drinks excellent. Local to bars, restaurants and old town. 10 min walk to gondola, or get the free minibus running throughout the day.

Me, my fiancé and 4 year old boy stayed a week here during the February half term, bearing in mind how the star rating differs from UK I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it was. Room- we were top floor so it got quite hot during the night but we just opened the windows. Clean, tidy, spacious and everything you need. Only negatives I would say is there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms and the mattresses weren’t brilliant. Food- for us this was just incredible. We went with the half board option so breakfast and dinner. It was just faultless from the options of cold foods, dips, side dishes to the lovely various hot foods which had a few different cuisines throughout the week. Everything was cooked to perfection which they kept stocked up at all times during the busy half term period. The puddings were delicious and the waiting staff were excellent; very friendly, cleared our plates away quickly, kept everything clean, tidy and running smoothly. Free unlimited local wine and beer at dinner times too which was a bonus! Lobby- this part of the hotel was the focal point for a lot of people. It’s a great size with a bar, pool table, lots of chairs/sofas and a lovely big open fire in the middle. The atmosphere was great every night, people playing games, kids having fun and just a genuinely nice place to chill after dinner. Pool/spa - again, these pleasantly surprised me. Really nice sized pool with a shallower, smaller pool; loungers to chill out on; couple of really hot showers and the spa downstairs was very tranquil with steam rooms, sauna and the option to buy massages. It is a little walk (5ish mins) from the ski shops and gondola but the hotel put on a free shuttle bus quite frequently. We enjoyed the walk too/from most days through the lively town. Overall the hotel was friendly, very clean all over, great vibes for young families/younger visitors, great atmosphere and you could tell the staff work really hard. Would love to come back here again!
