Ourania Apartments in Kato Gouves

Just had a week here with my husband. Very clean and tidy surroundings. Stayed in 108. Pretty basic. Paid for AC. Friendly staff and Kali on reception was helpful and direct! 😂 Best restaurants Milos & Seaside (for fish Mezze!) both in Gouves. Did the boat trip with Cretan Sails…Snorkelling and swimming etc. details on a board in central Gouves. €50 each for 4 hour cruise & lunch. Was okay. Only decent beach we found was a 15 min walk away and bang opposites the Island Hotel. Shallow clear water. No fish whatsoever though … Tui great flights again only gripe was waiting at airport on arrival and sat on the bus for an hour until we left for hotel. This was due to waiting for bus to fill with other flight arrivals…. Next time we’ll pay for private transfer if accommodation is close enough. All in all a lovely holiday, and relaxed and recharged.

My husband and I stayed in one of the older rooms, it was dark and dingy, bathroom was scruffy with broken towel hooks and shower holder, no drawers to put clothes in, we overlooked all of these issues because you get what you pay for, however… be very careful of the steps in the apartment, they are dangerous, especially in the dark. The yellow and black strips on them are not fluorescent so still can’t be seen at night, if you are over a certain age or very young you could have a nasty accident! Guests as far back as 2019 have commented on these needless steps yet they are still there. Staff were friendly but only engaged with you if you sat at the bar, Beware of Stellios the barman, he watches guests on their cctv and comments on your behaviour if he deems it inappropriate, he also keeps count of your drinks and will tell you if he thinks you had too many! (Basically, if you hurt yourself on their property, by checking you on camera they can cover their backs if you complain) Food was just like you would make at home, fried breakfast, burgers, toasties, nothing amazing. Head receptionist has a massive chip on her shoulder and strong opinions about some guests The cleaners are amazing, they work so hard for such little money, don’t forget to leave them a tip! Don’t ask staff how to get to other places as none of them know, they don’t live locally. The pool is not big enough for the amount of guests, get up early if you want a poolside lounger as people put their towels on then go for breakfast! Balconies in some rooms are ridiculously small and chairs very close to the steps down to the pavement, if you lean back you'll be tumbling down them Aeroplane noise didn’t bother us as have lived on a uk airbase but it is directly above the hotel Just remember, if they weren’t nice to you , you wouldn’t go back, it’s just a job to them Don’t snap your key fob they’ll charge you a tenner to replace it All in all, if you don’t moan or complain about anything you will be liked, if not then fear their wrath, don’t even think about complaining to TUI, they are not interested in you after they have taken your money A disappointing holiday, will not return
