It offers a variety of room types, including dorm beds, standard rooms, suites, and multi-bedroom apartments with mountain or land views. The hotel provides essential services such as heating, laundry, luggage storage, and free WiFi. Guests will find a restaurant and bar on-site, as well as a tour desk and access to skiing activities. Despite its hotel designation, many reviews describe it as having a hostel atmosphere with shared bathrooms and minimal room amenities. The property dates back some years and shows signs of wear, with some guests mentioning issues like bugs, icy entrances, and limited breakfast options. Staff are often praised for friendliness and helpfulness, particularly the Australian team managing the property. This place may suit budget travelers or young adults seeking proximity to the Happo One Gondola but may disappoint those expecting typical hotel comforts.

This hotel is sold as a hotel but is a backpackers hostel, run by Aussie backpackers. The biggest problem was the bugs I saw which look like bedbugs. The second biggest problem they do not clear the ice/snow from the front of their entrance. So you are forced to carry your luggage over thick ice to get in. The rooms are very run down.

Other than the close proximity to gondola, stay was very disappointing. Bathroom was located on another floor and had only one stall. Showers were three floors down. Very rundown and breakfast was toast, boiled egg and cereal. Front desk staff was kind but otherwise we were just really disappointed. Was a hostel that is called a hotel.

1/5 – Very Disappointing Experience My daughter and her friends stayed at Hakuba Gondola Hotel during a trip to Japan. After eating at the hotel restaurant, my daughter became unwell and was sick on the bedspread — an unfortunate accident. She apologized profusely, offered to arrange dry cleaning, and even suggested buying a brand-new bedspread, which would have cost far less than their excessive demands. The hotel charged a $150 cleaning fee from their deposit and later attempted to add a further $300 to replace the bedspread. The girls were given little opportunity for reasonable discussion, and the charges felt disproportionate, particularly given that the rest of the bedding and linens in the room were already in average condition at best. The most disappointing aspect was how the situation was handled by staff. The following day, staff members raised the issue in a casual, almost gossipy manner, with comments such as “a little birdie told me you were sick last night,” which was highly unprofessional and inappropriate. My daughter requested to speak with the manager multiple times, and when she finally had a conversation, the manager, Lee, was confrontational, dismissive, and treated these polite girls like criminals over a simple mishap, offering no empathy or reasonable resolution. As a parent, it’s extremely disappointing to see young travellers treated this way while far from home. There are far better accommodation options in Hakuba that handle situations like this with fairness and basic understanding. I would recommend staying elsewhere.

There was just a room with only 2 towels, no any other amenities.
Shared toilets are same level as public park.
Shower room is wet, dark and cold, only 1 hair dryer.
Parking charged 2,000 yen even stayed 1 night.
Continental style breakfast.

I booked 2 nights, but i could not stay another night anymore. (120USD)

To be fair, it is a below average hostel if we are in New Zealand, but when compare to Japanese standard, it is by far as the worst hostel.

The hotel location is excellent & the boiled eggs were perfectly made, otherwise this would not have got any star ratings from me. The staff are friendly but quite useless. This is not a hotel, rather a hostel or backpacker accommodation. Its not suitable for family holiday, but OK for young adults on a budget holiday & don't mind the bear minimum. The bathrooms are tiny & the best thing about this is that you can use it as a sauna after running the hot water for a while. Breakfast has limited options, toast, cereal, coffee, tea, yogurt, boiled eggs & pancakes on Christmas & Boxing day only ! Their shuttle service is never available, but the van always standing outside the hotel. Rental gear is in bad condition.

“I had an amazing stay at Gondal Hotel. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, which made the stay very enjoyable. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist with anything we needed. The service and overall atmosphere were excellent, and I felt very welcomed throughout my stay. I would definitely recommend Gondal Hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay.”

Great location for family skiing if you are an English speaker. The hotel and the ski lessons are mostly staffed by Australians. The town is gorgeous, with snow monkeys wild in the trees. The accommodation is basic, with a hostel feel. The family rooms are good. The breakfast is very basic, but gets you going for the day. It is an old building, but it did have private bathroom facilities.

If you are into convenience then this is s great hotel, 100 meters from the Happo One Ski 🎿 lift. Great bar, we had fun. But rooms seriously bare Zero amenities in room And a big set of stairs to get to the lift.. A massive shout out to the Amazing Australian staff that keep this hotel pumping. And Olivia and Kira that went above and beyond to help me with my bags. Breakfast is like being at summer camp 🏕 I really had to laugh, enjoy your boiled egg.

The people who work here are WONDERFUL. Sad that mgmt put them in this position.
The facility is really in terrible shape, maintained in a patchwork, the grounds had snow boulders falling from roof and a treacherous entrance to reception. The worst arrival we've ever had; there was no shuttle service to the hotel. The roads were icy and there were no available taxis so we wandered around with gear and suitcases for 1 1/2 hours taking two nasty falls on the ice after a 12 hour trip to get there.
Instead of skiing, we planned our second day of slope time there lugging our stuff back to the bus station for shipping in order to prepare for departure.
The property is not a hotel, rather it's a dorm/hostel type of place. The shared bathroom was on another floor from us on 4, had one out of order, and it was flooded from the other leaking and smelly in the women's 3rd floor. Fire exits were blocked with old beds and furniture, tied open to window latches or inoperable with doors removed, no sprinklers, etc. It was completely dangerous as far as fire safety evac goes. Difficult to navigate by its byzantine corridors and lockers for gear don't lock. I never went to the communal shower but opted to use the hot springs (a 20 minute walk) after seeing the grunge reviews about not going in without shower shoes. If you wanted a nice bath there, it costs ¥3,000 extra which is more than the one in the village. Overall, the staff and location to lift were super.

Does what is says on the tin, no frills
This is a very basic hotel, catering mostly to young Australian tourists. It is extremely conveniently located next to the Happo One gondola and several popular bars / restaurants. The rooms are clean and generally the staff were very helpful, but the physical state of the building and the smell of diesel fuel is a little off putting. The breakfast is very basic but in the hotel’s defence, everything was pretty much exactly as described and the price reflects the value you get here.
