We stayed at Art Hotel Gran Paradiso during our honeymoon, and unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. I’m writing this review to help future travelers decide if this hotel is the right fit for them.

Upon arrival, check-in was very underwhelming. There was no help offered with our luggage, no assistance getting to our room, and little in the way of a warm welcome, something we experienced consistently at other hotels during our two-week trip in Europe. We were simply handed our key and left to figure things out on our own.

The hotel brands itself as an “art hotel,” but to us, it felt more like a hospital. The furniture and decor were cold and clinical, and each floor featured neon-painted room doors, which didn’t feel very tasteful or inviting. The biggest disappointment was the “art” in our first room - a large, unsettling image covering an entire wall. It was difficult to relax in that environment, especially on our honeymoon. I've included a photo for you to see as well. To the hotel’s credit, they did move us to another room after we raised our concerns, and we appreciated their willingness to accommodate us.

The beds were extremely firm. So much so that I experienced significant back pain by the end of our five-night stay.

Location-wise, this hotel is not the most convenient if you plan to spend time in town. There’s a complimentary shuttle every 90 minutes, which is helpful, but if you miss it, you’re stuck waiting or paying around €30 for a taxi each way. It made attending excursions more stressful than we anticipated.

On a positive note, the views from the property are absolutely beautiful, truly the highlight of our stay. Our balcony lacked privacy, but the scenery made up for it. The rooms were also very clean, which we appreciated.

Overall, while we made the most of our time in Sorrento, we would not choose to stay here again. I can understand how this hotel’s style might appeal to some travelers, but for us, it simply wasn’t the right fit — especially for a special occasion like a honeymoon. I hope this review helps others decide whether it’s the right choice for their trip.

Enjoyed a week's stay here, but expected more of a 4-star hotel. The room was spotlessly clean but basic and not that functional - it lacked storage space with only a wardrobe, which, although provided plenty of hanging space, had no drawers or shelving. There were only 2 plug sockets, 1 in the bedroom and the other in the bathroom - not handy for charging. There was no mirror at the table in the bedroom, which meant doing hair in the bathroom mirror, but doing hair in a steamy bathroom is not ideal. We had an issue with the drain in the shower being blocked, but this was quickly fixed after it was reported. The breakfast was disappointing as it was basic, with little variation over the course of the week. The exception was the pastries and cakes. The selection of these was huge and changed daily. For me, I could have done with less sweet treats and more savoury options for breakfast. Had lunch here and one night for dinner - the food was good but not exceptional. There are much better places in the town for food. The big plus point of the hotel is the pool area. The views are truly amazing, and with drinks and food being served from the pool bar, it is a relaxing place to enjoy the sun.

Fantastic, just about perfect. The staff were friendly, appeared interested in us. They helped my wife who is learning Italian.

The views from the hotel of the Bay of Naples & Vesuvius are incredible! The pool, sun bed terrace & outside dining area are very nice. The hotel interior, however, has a budget feel to it and the so called “Superior” Room we had was tiny, poorly furnished (with no bedside tables, no chest of drawers & only a single wardrobe each with no shelves in it. The artwork in the room was creased paper posters fixed to the wall with drawing pins. No coffee/tea making facilities and very poor finish in the Bathroom. The room balcony, however, was spacious with a sea view. The hotel food, service & staff were excellent.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days on our honey and we would definitely recommend. The room and pool views are spectacular. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we felt accommodated. Transportation from the hotel to the Sorrento bus station was included and also very reliable. A big thank you to the staff for making our honeymoon experience enjoyable!

The location is very pretty high up but you need to take a shuttle which runs every hour and 15 minutes so not very easy. There is young lady at the front desk that does not seem to want to do her job regarding helping guests. They went into our rooms even after informing them not to do so. They do not have do not disturb signs!!!! The shuttle goes around picking up other guests without letting you know so it takes time for you to make your way to the hotel. Breakfast was good but waiting for coffee was not! They only give you one card to open the door and at times it doesnt even work. Service is not great and it is a hassle to use the shuttle.

This is a great hotel with a beautiful view over the bay of Naples, an excellent restaurant and wonderful staff. However, it is spoiled by an apparent reliance on American tour groups which arrive in hordes, act as if they own the place and are generally rude, loud and arrogant.

A really nice hotel with great staff who were all extremely helpful. The choice of food in the restaurant needs a but of change as the choice was limited for those like me who do not eat red meat. The hotel is high up in the hills, so the views are stunning. The hotel operates a free shuttle service to the main area which works well. All services are charged to your room- no cash is taken for drinks etc, although I understand that you can submit your receipts each day and pay in cash/ card to reception. Tourist tax was added to the bill when checking out. There is lots of modern art around the hotel which is interesting, although I don't really understand it. There are lits of sunbeds and umbrellas, and unusually no towels out early on a morning. The sun lounge towels supplied by the hotel are really long. Overall a really nice hotel

Review of Art Hotel Gran Paradiso, Sorrento We spent a wonderful week at the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso in Sorrento, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. This high-quality, well-managed hotel offers stunning views over the bay, with breathtaking vistas of the mountains and Mount Vesuvius that truly elevate the stay. The staff were outstanding—professional, warm, and customer-focused, ensuring every moment felt special. Our room, number 222, was a modest size but well-equipped with a stocked (chargeable) mini bar, a safe, and a comfortable bathroom featuring a great shower and quality toiletries. The room had a small balcony, but the view was limited to a rambling old house with trees, and lacked the scenic beauty found from the front or side views. However, the hotel’s other attributes more than compensated for this. Aircon was effective although noisy with the fan on. Bed was medium firm and comfortable. The pool area was a highlight, with a lovely depth of 1.90m and a serene atmosphere, perfect for couples. It was never overcrowded, with plenty of sun loungers available. The nearby bar area offered a great selection of reasonably priced drinks, cocktails, and food, all conveniently charged to the room. Service by the pool was prompt and friendly, adding to the relaxed vibe. The hotel’s restaurant, Toni’s, was a standout, located just metres from the pool and bar area with a large outdoor terrace boasting incredible bay views. We dined there for three nights, and the food was excellent, with a varied menu and particularly delicious, well-portioned desserts. The professional service matched the food’s quality. Breakfasts were equally good with a buffet offering an array of sweet treats, cheeses, cold meats, fruits, and hot options like bacon, eggs (cooked to order), sausages, fried bread, beans, and omelettes. Table service for coffee and tea. The hotel’s location, perched high above the bay, offers spectacular scenery but requires transport to reach Sorrento’s bustling center, which was busy even in mid-September. The hotel’s reliable shuttle bus was a lifesaver, running multiple times daily with a quick 5-minute journey to town, the last bus returning at 11pm. The shuttle was busy in the evenings, and on one occasion, it was full, but the hotel promptly sent a minibus to pick up remaining guests—a testament to their excellent service. We highly recommend the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso for its stunning views, high-quality facilities, and exceptional management. It’s a perfect choice for a memorable Sorrento stay, though those prioritizing a room with a view may want to check room details when booking.
