Mantenia Hotel in Rethymno

It is such a lovely family-run hotel. We loved everything about our stay here, especially how nice and friendly the old ladies were. Upon leaving they even gifted us a small bouquet from their garden. Our room was clean, cleaned daily, it was quiet and close to the beach. The city of Rethymno was also a short bus ride away, and there's a convenient kiosk nearby that works 24/7. Great stay, would definitely recommend.

Beautiful, serene, traditional-feeling, non-commercial, lovely staff, location is incredible. Turtles hatching on the beach 5 minutes away. Opposite of mass tourism and totally relaxing. I loved it.

We had the most memorable vacation at the Mantenia hotel this Summer! The hospitality of Chrysoula and all the staff is above and beyond today's world, as they go the extra mile in everything. We arrived there very late and hungry at night, and she made us toast. We stayed for seven nights and we loved it. The owners are super friendly and caring! This hotel has a soul which is rare to see today. You will be in a great location between two major cities, Hania and Heraklion, and our favorite Rethymno. I recommend renting a car as the island is beautiful for exploring. Before our departure, Chrysoula gifted us the goods from her garden; she sees every guest like a family member. Great place to stay if you are looking for a warm family-run hotel, not a luxurious one! We were very pleased with our stay even though there were few surprises/things that should have been done differently. We had nice chats with the owner - a lovely almost 70 years old lady (who spoke English quite well). Our rooms were comfortable, bathrooms could definitely be more modern. What surprised us: air conditioning is extra (6 euro per day), we had to leave the key at the reception when leaving the hotel (they have only one so wanted to ensure we don’t lose it) and breakfast is fully ready around 8:30-8:45am even though they say it starts at 8am (but it is a common theme across Crete it seems). When we said we’re going hiking on the next day and leaving around 5am (so missing breakfast), the owner offered us sandwiches for the next day! This is definitely a nice family gesture! Swimming pool looked clean and I think it is being cleaned everyday. Beach is very near but it was super wavy when we arrived, if you are looking for a calmer sea ask the owner - we got an amazing recommendation 20mins drive away!
