Anita Beach Hotel - Adults Only in Rethymno

This is a small family hotel. We stayed here for one week and our stay was fine. The hotel itself has a wonderful location, just one minute walk from the beach. There are a lot of restaurants and shops in the same street where the hotel is. In general the staff were very polite and nice. The breakfast was alright, although a bit repetitive- same things were served every morning. But that was still something we were able to handle. The problem was the room we got!
It was a room directly under the swimming pool, like in a basement, and I must admit it is not a pleasant place for spending your vacation (obviously just the time in the hotel). There was a lot of moisture, damp, and stale air there was not a chance to breathe normally. After having a shower the whole room was like a sauna, because the window is too small and there is no air vent in the toilet. The air conditioning was working poorly, if working at all. We highlighted this issue to the hotel reception clerk and then again we spoke with our travel agency, and the local tour agent as well, but there were not able to switch our room. The reason and the reply we got was: it is fully booked! Very important to mention that this was a lie! There were guests who came a day or two after our arrival and they were also accommodated in rooms next to ours. Within a day or two they got their rooms switched. How is that possible if the hotel is fully booked?! Also nobody spoke to us again regarding our issue, or asked to reconfirm if everything was alright. That is not the right way to treat a customer!
