Found some hair under the bed that wasn't vacuumed before checking in, didn't fully take all our rubbish. Decent place to stay at location wise but very small space for a family (especially in the "king deluxe room"). Only had 2 towels too despite there being 4 of us.

Rooms small, but have what you need. Location is far from the sights, but easy to get to on many bus routes. Onsen on 9th floor never busy and perfect size for this hotel. Great price. Staff very friendly.

The hotel is quite a long walk from Kyoto Station; it took us about 20+ minutes on foot to get there. You could take the bus, but it doesn't really save much time. There's a good ramen shop right next to the hotel that even gave our child a toy. The room isn't huge, but there's enough space for luggage. The lobby downstairs offers free coffee, which I enjoyed every morning.

I love this hotel. It’s modern but still Japanese. I didn’t realise when I booked a stair room that it would have a Japanese shoes off level around the bed - perfect mix of modern convenience and Japanese heritage. I also liked that it had real art. Felt like a place that a young Japanese person with taste would stay. One of the best small hotels I have stayed at, hope to be back.

It’s one of the best hotels we have stayed at in the entirety of Japan! The large space was a lovely change after being stuck in small accommodations and overall we fell in love with the decor as well. Staff were always so polite and helpful. It’s also right down the street from the market and other major shopping areas.

At this price, what more could you ask for? For budget travelers, Smile Hotel is usually the go-to. It's small but has everything you need. It's really close to many of the main exhibitions for the Kyoto Photography Festival. You can take a bus to get to the Kamo River and the busier areas.
