The Pocket Hotel Kyoto Shijokarasuma, Kyoto1 / 30

Kyoto, 474 Setoyacho, Nishikikoji-sagaru, Yanaginobanba-dori, Nakagyo-ku (2 km from centre) 🧭 Map
THE POCKET HOTEL Kyoto is suitable if you are looking for a simple place just to sleep. The room is very small, typical of budget hotels in Japan, and only really comfortable for resting. If you want to open your luggage, it’s best to bring a cabin-size suitcase, as there is very limited space. The bathroom is shared, which can be a bit inconvenient, especially if your room and the bathroom are on...
Stayed from 12 to 16 of March Good location near the subway and the market. The hotel was nice and quiet and I stayed at the female only section. You had to use your card so I felt very safe. The communal bathroom was clean and organized. There are pajamas and many amenities next to the front desk that was very convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but comfortable and...
Good location near Nishiki market. The rooms are expectedly small, but clean and they provide fresh towels every day. The shower/bathroom facilities are always clean and comfortable to use. I appreciated the women’s only floor.
Very convenient location, the hotel service is super excellent. Prepare a lot of guidance (tourist spot or food spot) for tourist. Room is clean and facility all good.
it clean, bright for both the , room and toilet. the room was small but feel very comfortable. they have private female use toilet located onnthe 3rd floor. it safe as u near room card to access to the lift and toilet. it location is great with branded shopping and near to the nishik market. can find vegetarian/vegan restaurant around the hotel
Was a lovely stay, the hotel felt extremely clean, well managed and very safe. The rooms were small but cozy, the toilets and shared bathrooms were clean with good vibes all around, the location was great being smack bang in the middle of down town Kyoto. And they give you very comfy pyjamas. The hotel requires you to have a room keycard to even use the elevator so the security of the guests are tight...

Awesome hotel at excellent location. Stylish and classy, full of heritage yet modern inside. Great service from the staff. Wonderful main garden inside.
Outstanding traditional hotel within which to feel the Kyoto vibe. Extremely friendly staff and well appointed rooms
This is the most satisfying hotel I've ever stayed in, and of course, the price reflects that. I would definitely choose it again if I came back. It's truly top-notch in every aspect, and the photos turn out beautifully. You can contact the hotel to arrange for a photographer to come in for a shoot.
I will never book a hotel through Trip again. I don't usually write reviews, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to write about this, but I'm leaving this so that no one else experiences the same problem. During my recent stay, I received a call from Trip a few hours before check-in. They contacted me to inform me that my reservation for room [101] had not actually been made. The Trip representative...
A very comfortable hotel. The breakfast was especially plentiful and exquisite. The room was beautifully decorated with a Zen-like window view. The tatami mats were very comfortable to sleep on, and the soothing music in the room was particularly good!
A fantastic hotel, a small-scale luxury hotel under the SLH brand, where you can experience the exquisite service of Japan. Each room has a slightly different style and view. I booked the cheapest room, the new wing, for 210 yen. The room wasn't large, and the view was decent, but it was still quite comfortable, especially the bathtub. Happy hour is from 5-6 pm daily, with complimentary drinks, including...

Great value for the price , room is decent and location wise is convenient as i am here for business meeting in the nearby neighborhood
Everything about this hotel was terrific. All of the staff were kind and extremely helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was wonderful, and the laundry room easy to use. We couldn’t be happier with this stay.
I would describe our overall experience as disappointing, largely due to the poor attitude of the female front desk staff. The hotel itself has some positives — the location is convenient and the room is relatively spacious. However, there are also noticeable issues with maintenance. The corridors and lifts have an unpleasant smell, and the laundry room is poorly kept, with visible dust in both the...
Room is too small for 3 people even though they have 3 separate beds. Barely space to open a big suitcase. No bottled water provided in the room even though they offer 24hr drinks in the lobby. No daily cleaning service, only every 3 days. Location is close to train station and walkable to Gion tourist places.
Choosing this hotel for my Kyoto trip was a brilliant decision! The overall ambiance is elegant and thoughtful, but I especially want to rave about the self-service drink machine in the lobby – it was such a delightful little bonus during my travels. The machine itself is sleek and blends perfectly with the hotel's style. The drink selection is incredibly diverse, from ice-cold sodas to warm beverages...
Koko Hotel Sanjo was at a convenient location with friendly and helpful receptionist staff who helped us greatly, including sending our luggages to our next hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the lobby is lovely and well decorated. The one gripe I have is that they do not have a water dispenser for topping up our bottles and we had to buy our own drinking water.

The hotel is beautiful, with excellent staff, delicious coffee, and great tea. The rosemary-infused water is a nice touch – overall, it's a stylish and modern hotel with a Kyoto vibe. However, I was a bit bothered that my room didn't have a window and the toilet and bathroom were separate. I found that a bit uncomfortable for a hotel room. On the plus side, it's very conveniently located near a park...
Shared with 4 pax in a family with a toddler 2 yo. Love the design of the room. Toilet was very good and comfortable. It's a little secluded but that's what we preferred yet the location is convenient.
Overall, the room was good, primarily due to its excellent location very close to the subway. The room was a bit small, but the wet/dry separation in the shower and toilet area was definitely a big plus, and it was genuinely very clean. The only minor inconvenience was being assigned a room right next to the elevator. Overall, a positive experience!
Superb Japanese Experience, Unbeatable Location! The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, surrounded by countless restaurants, cafes, and traditional shops, making it ideal for both sightseeing and evening strolls. While compact, the rooms are cozy and comfortable. They perfectly blend traditional tatami mats with modern amenities, preserving Japanese charm while ensuring practicality. The...
The room was clean and nice, and I was very satisfied! The unlimited tea and water was great! I would like to stay again!
Last year we stayed in a quad room, but the room was small and the lighting was not good. This year we stayed in a triple room, which was actually quite spacious and had good lighting. Although the receptionist was nice, the Wi-Fi in our room (418) had almost no signal from the first day of our stay. We reported it twice, but the problem was not solved until we left on the fourth day. This was the...

Super nice hotel, staffs are kind, can speak and understand English. River view room, nice environment, clean and tidy.
The hotel is very quiet, in Shirakawa next to the Kamogawa River, with convenient dining options and convenience stores nearby, and a few minutes' walk from the Hankyu Line station
I have been to Japan many times before, and the hotels I booked for hundreds to thousands of yuan were better than this hotel. First of all, we arrived at the hotel in the morning on the day of check-in, but we were given a room on the first floor next to the front desk. I said that I had trouble sleeping and hoped to change to a quiet room upstairs. The front desk clerk asked the leader and told me...
The room is relatively large and the transportation is quite convenient. The vibration of the subway downstairs is too obvious. If you pay attention to it, you will feel very uncomfortable. The attitude of the front desk customer service is not good. For a room rate of more than 2,000 yuan, the service level of three stars is really not good.
1. The hotel is located on the edge of the Kamo River, quiet in the bustling city. It is within a 5-minute walk from the subway station and the bus station, and the location is quite advantageous. Convenience stores and restaurants are all available nearby 2. The room is very clean, and the facilities such as bathing are particularly convenient. Very satisfactory hotel! The overall decoration is exquisite, the design is classical and elegant, especially the toilet and bathroom equipment are great! The windows are very soundproof! The terrace room has a stunning view of the garden and distant mountains! The welcome drink was also delicious! It's very quiet at night around here, and there aren't many streetlights, so there's not much to buy, but it's very relaxing!
The room was beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable. The breakfast was small but excellent. For a hotel in Japan, this one is very comfortable. It has a balcony where you can watch the stream, which is very relaxing. The location is also great.
unbeatable location, with the famous arabica coffee with 30 meters and 渡月桥 in 100 meter, and a well designed and artistic hotel
Muni hospitality, thoughtfulness can be felt in their service delivery, layout and design. We felt very comforting when the front desk officer Akemi Shibuta was concern due to our late arrival without any upfront notice that food options will be limited and sent us an email to check in on us. Also on our checked out date, they also accompanied us to outside of hotel lobby and sent us out. They ensured...

The location is excellent, close to the metro station, and the accommodation is clean. It was raining when I left, and the receptionist even gave me an umbrella to shield me from the rain; I was extremely grateful. Highly recommended accommodation.
Great location nearby the station and room are clean. Would love to visit again in the future.
Its discouner hotel, Near Kyoto Station, self check-in, self lagguagge storage, room with TV, water boil, mini bar, hair dryer, veru clean, microwave and washing machine at reception
Polite, friendly staff, the room is clean, there is enough space and everything you need. If there was a second chair, an iron and ironing room, and a microwave not right at the entrance to the hotel, it would be perfect.
Very basic and a good distance from the train station. Had everything we needed and great for a one night stay.
very good place to stay, have bath tub and location is also convinient. The only thing is checkin time is 4pm, not okay for early arrival they dont even provide toilet for their guests until u got into the room!

I was wondering if it would be possible to offer a few more breakfast options. That said, everything was excellent and you are doing a wonderful job. This ryokan is definitely one of the best choices for anyone who wants to experience Japanese culture. Thank you so much. See you next time.
Extremely nice customer service, even for Japan. Location is also really excellent, with the main train/bus/subway point for Kyoto right across the street. The onsen is actually four separate ones (two for men, two for women) and is open till midnight, which means it was never crowded. When I went, I had the onsen to myself. Front desk was very proactive in asking about breakfast, room cleaning...
Pleasant place. Japanese style. There's an onsen.
Right across from Kyoto Station, and there's an Ito Kyuemon on the first floor. Plus, you can access the department store food court through the underground shopping street – super convenient! The decor has a distinct school trip vibe.
The staff were so sweet and friendly! Some were able to speak English and those that couldn’t still tried their best to be helpful!
A memorable stay thanks to the kind staff. The location alone makes this a great place to stay, and the friendly staff made our trip even more pleasant. However, the room was cold (I didn't ask about extra heating options), and I thought the bathroom cleaning could use a bit more attention. Overall, it was a memorable experience because of the staff. Thank you.

Good and a quite place to stay
A really mixed experience - some great things to recommend this place and some quite poor things you should know about. Like some other guests before us it seems, we also did not receive a PIN code before we got there and so had no way to get in to the building let alone our room. Didn't even know we needed a code except other guests told us after we arrived. Took quite a while to get a response...
The room is big for 4 adults. Microwave and toaster. Full fridge shower was big and has laundry machine in room. The clothes will not dry completely. You need to hang them but there was many hang her. My only complaint was the AC. It was Soo loud! Sounded like there was a hurican in our room.
Great stylish hotel, great location, everything is clean, there is even a Dyson hairdryer, I recommend it.
Very spacious and not bad. Just when we were checking in, an old Japanese lady came out of the alley and started chirping at us. She must have been cursing. Inexplicably, she replied "Baga" and left.
The location is very good and the room is OK, but there is no elevator and it is inconvenient to carry luggage.

It was a pleasant stay! All of the staffs were professional and polite. Definitely recommend this place anyone. Will definitely plan a trip and come back!
Got a free room upgrade. Even though the room didn't have an openable window, it wasn't an issue this time of year. The bathtub was huge, and the hotel is very close to Nijo Castle, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. They even gave us traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi) and matcha. Breakfast was excellent, but I skipped the salmon since I don't eat seafood.
I felt cheated staying in this hotel. It was a small box-like building with no public places. It didn't match the photos I saw when booking. There were several lime peeling off the walls of the room. Because it was adjacent to the bathroom area, there was no door between the bathroom area and the bedroom. If you were taking a shower, you would be exposed once you opened the door! The most incredible...
Very safe and private hotel, very close to Nijo Castle, 7 minutes walk to Karasuma Subway Station, there are many convenience stores next to the hotel, as well as local vegetable shops and bakeries, very convenient for daily shopping
The hotel design is simple and beautiful, and the lobby and rooms have a sense of design. The hotel is in an excellent location, only a few minutes walk to the downtown area I will stay here again next time I come to Kyoto. .
Parking is available at the new hotel location and is more expensive.

What an unbelievable experience. The service was the best I’ve had in the WORLD. The people are so kind, they wait on you hand and foot. Excellent service and a fantastic location! It's surrounded by a bustling commercial street, making it incredibly convenient for getting around.
Great location with basic amenities. Good for tourist. Well recommended and situated in a good location Laundry facilities can be improved by having paid laundry and the machine being lockable. Had laundry taken out inconsiderate users when it’s not finished yet
The location is great! The wifi was problematic though...we ended up using our own sim cards. Facilties are a bit old, especially the heating. There's only 4 settings, not like an aircon remote. But otherwise beds are comfy and there was sufficient space for luggages.
Old hotel with an entrance right at the station. Living on lower floors guarantees vibration from the trains and sound from the street. Location itself is great and price is adequate for the location.
The location couldn't be better. It's super convenient for visiting Arashiyama, Uji, and other places. Downstairs, you'll find popular shopping spots like Shinkyogoku Shopping Street, and Takashimaya is right across the street.
The Kyoto Central Hotel boasts an excellent location, right by the Hankyu station exit. The facilities are a bit dated, and you don't need a key card for power, but there are very few outlets. ⸻ I stayed at M’s Hotel Kyoto Station Kizuya, which is about a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station. Walking from the station is therefore a practical option. The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood, which I really liked. There are bus stops within...
The room was really clean. However, the front desk system was quite confusing. It seemed self-service but wasn't, and sometimes there was only one person at the front desk or no one at all, which made the service quite inefficient.
Room is clean and okay, small but manageable to open all luggage. Toilet fit size with woman but small for male. Location is in walking distance but around the hotel is the local’s house, peaceful but need to walk for travel and food.
The room is quite good; it's big enough to keep a suitcase open, which isn't common in Japan. The bathroom has a tub with hot water and good pressure, perfect for showering. The location is about a 10-15 minute walk from Kyoto Station. Within a 5-minute walk, there are several convenience stores. The only drawback I'd mention is that they don't clean the room daily, only on the 4th day of your stay...

Banda Down the beat hotel ever. Traditional interior and breakfast truly are the most marvelous experience you can ever wish for. The stuff is very kind and helpful. Everyone should stay in a Ryokan at least once in their lives.
The hotel rooms are generally too small and compact. There is a local cemetery behind it. It is not recommended to stay there. It is also difficult to find. It is located in a small alley with poor signage. It is not recommended to stay there.
