Where to stay in Reykjavik

Our first check-in was quite stressful. We arrived around 3:00 pm but couldn’t get into the hotel because there was no reception and we never received check-in instructions. Luckily, someone who was inside helped us open the door and called the hotel for assistance. The room itself was nice and clean. Great location and within walking distance of a lot of stuff! Only complaint is the room was slightly dirty upon arrival. The housekeeping left behind used cleaning towels, a glove IN the toilet bowl, and the shower had stuff from the previous people left behind. We did get breakfast down the street through the hotel each morning which was great!

Breakfast was good, maybe the best part of this property. Shower was old and gross. Guest room and breakfast room are very dark. Probably by keeping it dark, they can hide some dirtiness of the property? There’s a reason why it’s super affordable compared to other places around the area.

This is about a 12min walk to the edge of downtown. It is still within a lively area of hotels and restaurants. They have tried to update the interior which is fine, but it is a bit damp and has carpets in the main hallways. Great place if you need a room for the night. This is a 2 star hotel. It is very basic and an afforyolace to stay. The breakfast is awesome though! If you don't have high standards this a good place to stay.

We were very happy with this accomodation! The day we left, we had to leave at 3 a.m. and were therefore to early to get breakfast. Knowing this, the very nice and helpful lady of the hotel made us some sandwiches, which were waiting for us on the counter. Recommended!

Great place to stay for a night or two. Very close to the city center and also to the wharf. The beds were comfortable and every room has its own private bathroom which is nice. My only complaint is that they put us to the dining room/Breakfast room and it was VERY noisy in the morning when we were trying to sleep. The hotel is located very centrally in Reykjavik allowing you to reach every location on foot. The rooms are very clean and the service is excellent. The owners are always happy to share their insights on where to go or to give you directions to where you need to get. The breakfast is plenty to take you a long way through the day. The hotel is in a good location, very close to bus stop 9, making it easy to get around. Restaurants and supermarkets are nearby, making it very convenient. Ideal for a quick stop before traveling on. Ideal location right next to Hallgrimskirkja church. Easy walk or bus to down town, where loads of restraints. Only 1 pillow which was very flat and toilet could do with a bit more of a clean. But generally very nice room.

This is a "self-help" facility. There is no staff. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. But shared bathroom and kitchen could use some TLC. The location is great if you have a car, but way out from the center (40-50 minutes by bus), so beware.

I stayed in REK inn for two days and highly recommend it. The room was very clean and the location was great, easily accessible by walk and public transport, not far front the city center, and next to the Bonus supermarket. The cost was great comparing to Icelandic standards. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay here the next time I visit Reykjavik!

The room here is quite silence and you can park your car freely outside the building. I mean at the other side of the street. I have seen the first snow in Iceland how beautiful we’re here and you can see the bonus supermarket near here. It’s only about several steps away from here.

The hotel is right next to one of the pickup points for all tours and buses, downtown shops and areas are perfect walking distance. The rooms are small but that's fine since it's mainly for sleeping and keeping your things while you explore. The stay was fantastic. Our flight was delayd and we got to the guest house late in the evening, at about 11P.M, they left the key for us and the instructions where to find everything we need. Felt like at home. Super comfy beds, slept better than at home. Very good good decision if your on a budget.

I was pleasantly surprised.  The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Reykjavik.  It is within walking distance  to shops and restaurants.  The transportation service to airport was added benefit.  I highly recommend this hotel 

This hotel had the nicest staff I encountered during my trip. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and very professional. Their warm attitude made me feel comfortable and cared for. I really loved staying here and would happily come back again.

We were really pleased with our stay here both times we've visited. Julia, Victoria and the staff there were unfailingly polite and helpful. The building we stayed in was well appointed and super convenient to everything we wanted to do. The only challenge here is parking, but it's possible if you pay attention. Plan ahead if you have folks in your party who have accessibility concerns.

I chose this property for the washer dryer. It was a disaster. The circuit kept tripping. Had to make a call. There’s only one set for the whole floor and the dryer never did dry the clothes. Great stay. Very convenient and close to all activities. Parking can be a hassle as there is no dedicated spot - people living around the building seem a bit testy about renters. Our entry code was sent to us ahead of time but was not ‘initiated’ so did not work - had to call and get a new one impromptu. A bit unexpected.

There was a lot of mold in the shower and the drain didn’t work well. You had to continually shut the water off during your shower so it didn’t flood the bathroom. The room trash was not emptied and there was no indication where you could take it yourself. The humidity was quite high. The traffic noise was reasonably loud.

Bathroom/Toilet is not as clean as expected

The rooms are clean for a budget hotel but the walls are paper thin. I can hear everytime someone takes a poop and when he goes to the shower or uses the tap. There is only 1 bathroom at every floor with the sink, toilet and shower in the same room so it cannot be used concurrently. This means we have to wait >30mins for each person to poop, then shower etc. You can only imagine what it is like on...

Great location however if you have gear to carry, it’s a bit of a walk from the closest bus stop and there is NO elevator. We were on the 4th floor and had a lot of gear. Apartment was great, as was the location. Only two minor adjustments I would make personally - put felt pads on all the furniture, this will reduce noise for the apartment below. Second is the shower, place a bracket at an angle for the hand held sprayer so it doesn’t just spray you vertically!

Was booked last minute due to original accommodation cancellation the day before arrival. Nice place, great location but very poor nights sleep due to poor sound proofing both inside and out. Ear plugs were provided but even with these sleep was broken from late night check ins and late night conversations from people walking by. I suspect the upper floor rooms would be better. Has a usable kitchen...

Not as long as I thought it would be, beautiful and bright, shops on either side, lovely little gift shops, places to eat and get a coffee,very pretty and unique, keep walking past the colours and it leads you right to the hallgrimsta

Is tidy and clean... kitchen is full of kitchenware which provide for us to cook ourself. Nice loc, close with Laugavegur, also able to walk to Harpa concert hall. Near with Bonus supermarket also. Just don’t have free carpark.

We had a great experience staying at Rainbow Guesthouse. The house is very clean and orderly. The location is absolutely perfect! It is in the heart of the city and only minutes walk from many of the fun things to do. I would highly recommend it and will definitely be staying here again when we return!

Our room was cute and cozy with a little balcony outside. The kitchen is fully-equipped. It's a very nice place to stay!
