Where to stay in Reykjavik

Our first check-in was quite stressful. We arrived around 3:00 pm but couldn’t get into the hotel because there was no reception and we never received check-in instructions. Luckily, someone who was inside helped us open the door and called the hotel for assistance. The room itself was nice and clean. Great location and within walking distance of a lot of stuff! Only complaint is the room was slightly dirty upon arrival. The housekeeping left behind used cleaning towels, a glove IN the toilet bowl, and the shower had stuff from the previous people left behind. We did get breakfast down the street through the hotel each morning which was great!

Breakfast was good, maybe the best part of this property. Shower was old and gross. Guest room and breakfast room are very dark. Probably by keeping it dark, they can hide some dirtiness of the property? There’s a reason why it’s super affordable compared to other places around the area.

This is about a 12min walk to the edge of downtown. It is still within a lively area of hotels and restaurants. They have tried to update the interior which is fine, but it is a bit damp and has carpets in the main hallways. Great place if you need a room for the night. This is a 2 star hotel. It is very basic and an afforyolace to stay. The breakfast is awesome though! If you don't have high standards this a good place to stay.

Enjoyed my stay here, it was a good value functional hotel, spotless and warm, and our room was serviced daily. Parking outside made it a good base to explore the golden circle, Vík, etc. with a rental car. The managers are very helpful and friendly. We stayed at Hotel Heidmork for 3 nights and didn't faced any issues. The hotel is managed by a couple and is located few kms away from Reykjavik downtown but location is perfect when you are travelling Golden Circle and south coast. Would really recommend this amazing place.

Great experience. We had a problem with the code door when we arrived and someone was quick to respond and help! It turns out we didn’t check our email the day of and they upgraded our room for free. We were with friends for two nights, wonderful hotel, delicious breakfast, friendly and helpful hostess of the hotel. the rooms are very clean and smell nice. There is a cozy veranda and the opportunity to drink tea/coffee/cocoa with cookies at any time in the hotel restaurant. Great place to stay for a night or two. Very close to the city center and also to the wharf. The beds were comfortable and every room has its own private bathroom which is nice. My only complaint is that they put us to the dining room/Breakfast room and it was VERY noisy in the morning when we were trying to sleep. The hotel is located very centrally in Reykjavik allowing you to reach every location on foot. The rooms are very clean and the service is excellent. The owners are always happy to share their insights on where to go or to give you directions to where you need to get. The breakfast is plenty to take you a long way through the day. Ideal for a quick stop before traveling on. Ideal location right next to Hallgrimskirkja church. Easy walk or bus to down town, where loads of restraints. Only 1 pillow which was very flat and toilet could do with a bit more of a clean. But generally very nice room.

This is a "self-help" facility. There is no staff. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. But shared bathroom and kitchen could use some TLC. The location is great if you have a car, but way out from the center (40-50 minutes by bus), so beware.

The hotel is right next to one of the pickup points for all tours and buses, downtown shops and areas are perfect walking distance. The rooms are small but that's fine since it's mainly for sleeping and keeping your things while you explore. The stay was fantastic. Our flight was delayd and we got to the guest house late in the evening, at about 11P.M, they left the key for us and the instructions where to find everything we need. I was pleasantly surprised.  The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Reykjavik.  It is within walking distance  to shops and restaurants.  The transportation service to airport was added benefit.  I highly recommend this hotel 

This hotel had the nicest staff I encountered during my trip. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and very professional. Their warm attitude made me feel comfortable and cared for. I really loved staying here and would happily come back again.

We were really pleased with our stay here both times we've visited. Julia, Victoria and the staff there were unfailingly polite and helpful. The building we stayed in was well appointed and super convenient to everything we wanted to do. The only challenge here is parking, but it's possible if you pay attention. Plan ahead if you have folks in your party who have accessibility concerns.

Very nice roomy and comfortable apartment near everything in the downtown area. We had the 1 bedroom on the 3rd floor, the space was roomy, had a comfortable bed and dishes for 3 to 4. The shower doors were a bit hinky, but work well once you figure them out. Great location however if you have gear to carry, it’s a bit of a walk from the closest bus stop and there is NO elevator. We were on the 4th floor and had a lot of gear. I chose this property for the washer dryer. It was a disaster. The circuit kept tripping. Had to make a call. There’s only one set for the whole floor and the dryer never did dry the clothes. I had to hang my clothes all over the apartment. The shower and sink drains were clogged and the night light switch was broken next to bed. Also only one sleeping pillow per person.

Modern apartment near a grocery store and bakery. The unit itself was clean but lacked some amenities. There were no black out curtains so it was bright at night. The shower basin was too small and you had to shut the shower off several times to let it drain so it wouldn’t flood the floor.

It was a good experience in Iceland however there’s very less amenities which is only beds toilet in the room and even there’s no microwave in the hotel.

The bed in the room was too soft, and I woke up with a backache. Also, the customer service was too slow to respond, and the room was completely empty.

This place really is a treasure. Perfect location in the center of Reykjavík. Beautiful historic architecture and extremely clean. Breakfast in the morning was great… with lots of local treats. The room trash was not emptied and there was no indication where you could take it yourself. The humidity was quite high. The traffic noise was reasonably loud.

Great central location and value. You will share a bathroom so make sure you are ok with that. Having a kitchen available was great. Staff was helpful when I needed to speak to them.

Bathroom/Toilet is not as clean as expected

The rooms are clean for a budget hotel but the walls are paper thin. I can hear everytime someone takes a poop and when he goes to the shower or uses the tap. There is only 1 bathroom at every floor with the sink, toilet and shower in the same room so it cannot be used concurrently. This means we have to wait >30mins for each person to poop, then shower etc. You can only imagine what it is like on...
