SKYVIEW Resort Phuket Patong Beach in Patong

Currently staying at Skyview and having just come from the Hyatt Regency which is a 5* hotel, the Skyview resort feels more like a 4* (at best). Here is a summary of my experience so far. We were excited to stay here due to the great reviews but the rooms are the only real standout feature at the hotel - service here is below par as the staff aren’t particularly friendly or approachable and don’t understand English, so interactions just feel awkward due to the language barrier. Unsure if staff has changed since the reviews a few months ago but they all look at you confused when asking for simple things i.e. how to order a drink on our arrival - I was told to go to the restaurant then sent to stand and wait the pool bar (although I was fully clothed) which just felt very awkward. When I did eventually get served the barman wasn’t particularly friendly and the glass I was given had dirty water marks on. We were happy to pay for early check-in but there was no option for this (although we requested this in advance) so had to sit in the hotel reception for an hour and a half which wasn’t pleasant when the air conditioning isn’t great and we wanted to go out and explore Patong. No offer of a glass of water - just left to wait. Breakfast is nice, but it’s an order-to-table system so the service lets it down again. It’s pointless asking the staff any questions as they don’t understand anything you say. The milk bottles aren’t labelled so fresh milk and soya milk look the same, asked staff which was fresh milk and ended up with soya. Asked for no nuts in 1 of the breakfast bowls we ordered and they were put on the table without any indication of which had no nuts. Asked to book the shuttle to the beach and was met with a frown by staff member who then turned to his colleague and muttered. Yao was very helpful - he should teach the rest of the staff about providing 5* service.
